AZ BIG Desert Fire

No wheeling involved here but I did get some pretty intense shots of the Cave Creek Complex fire a few miles from my home. Tons of trails in this area getting scorched. The thing about the desert though is that next year it will be all green again.

Anyone in AZ knows how many fires there are right now in the Tonto NF, about a half dozen smoke plumes all around the valley. Seems every lightning strike starts another one. We're really paying for that beautiful spring.

While I was getting the shots of the fire, the lightning was going off all over the valley.

Did you take that lightning shot? WOW!

Yeah, we are at I-17 and Happy Valley Rd. We could see the glow of the fires last night out our bedroom windows. Crazy stuff!

If im not mistaken, you can get a picture of lightnining by setting the camera up on a tri-pod and leaving the shutter open and wait for a lightning flash.

I use a Panasonic Lumix FZ-20. That lightning shot was an 8 second exposure and there are about twenty others that have no lighning. Long exposure with a tripod is about the only way to shoot lightning.

Heres some more shots from today.

Great Pic's!

Unfortunately, the area burned off was home to some of the last large Saguaro catus forest left. They take 65 to 75 years to get large enough to grow arms, and they don't reach maturity until they are over 120 years old...
