Video Editing software

I just picked up a digital camcorder and wanted to do some editing. I have edited video on a mac using imovie and final cutpro at school, but i have a pc at home. Was wondering what programs people here use to edit the videos that they have made (providing you own a pc). Folled around with windows movie maker, but am not impressed with it and would like to not have to uses it. Any sugestions aprecated.
Thanks TJ

I've used vegas, it's got a bit of a steep learning curve, but definitely a great program. If you're looking for the cheaper route, Pinnacle Studio 9 or Sony Screenblast Movie Studio are both decent editors, at very reasonable prices.

I need to get my wife something better than the free MS moviemaker software she's using. We have a handful of <$100 ones like pinnacle, ulead and a few others. So far she likes the MS free one the best. As far as I can tell, there is either sub $100 or $600 + movie editing software out there. Is that pretty much the deal, either cheap & decent, or 600+ for vegas or adobe?

problem with the <$100 ones is that they give you 1 or at most 2 timelines to work with.

someonetimes, the interface is crappy.

what exactly are you looking for?

for me it was multiple timelines. one great thing about VEGAS is that you can have as much timelines, and it doesnt matter if it/s video or audio or both.

as long as your computer can handle it, vegas will use it.

sometimes, i want to have a PIP with graphics in it, as it fly in over the shoulders. those <$100s just can do that.

Not sure what she wants, but she finds a way to use whatever's available, she's really good with pushing software to it's limits. I'm thinking that she nneds the good stuff, and her birthday's coming up... Mostly was curious if there's any middle ground.
