i have everything but a mount. I might go buy a temp one today at radio shack. I can't wait. I'm gonna mod up a place to mount it. I wanted to put it under the stereo but that will block the speaker. I might use a plug in speaker or drill holes under the speaker to allow it to be heard.

They said that because it's NOT a CB. That radio operates in a completely different frequency band and the only ones you are going to be able to talk to is boats and airplanes. It certainly won't communicate with CB's on the trail.

CB's operate in the 11 meter band, that is 26 and 27 mhz. That radio operates up in the 400 mhz range.

Do a Google search on "VHF License" and "UHF License" to learn the licensing requirements. In some cases, a VHF or "marine" radio like that is illegal to operate on the land.

well mine is in, I mounted the firestick on the rear roof. I will have pics up tomorrow. I managed to get a radio check and everything worked fine. I am only getting 1/2 mile tops of pickup though. And I keep hearing people talking in spanish. I live in Michigan so I have no clue on that. Its a 4ft firestik w/ a nice 18ft coax. I might not have it grounded good enough. Like I said, pics will be up later. Thanks for the help guys.

Shoot...I was just about to order the Firestick 2. Can you please educate e in the difference between the Wilson and the Firestick. I noted on another thread that one Wilson had 32% better dB gain than the Firestick

Appreciate any advice/info you can offer me.

Thanks

you know, i thought i'd be exposed to the wonderful world of truck talk, but in reality, it was pretty quiet. and those that did talk were mostly speaking espanol. eeeeeevery once in awhile you'd hear some interesting conversation, but most of the time, static and silence.

I think it's a little bit differnt around here Bob Alot of people still use them. I guess it's just where you are at. But being in SE. Tennessee they are alot of trails very close, minutes away and are very active. They are alot of base stations here too.

Where I'm from the mexicans are all over CB's. They even broadcast like radio stations on them. Playing music and everything else. This is out in the country though where they are farm workers so I guess they use the CB for that tyoe of stuff also.

For mobile use Id reccommend a Uniden or Cobra. There are some rebate programs going on with a select few models.

If you want a loud audio or sideband or both go with a Uniden Grant XL,made in the Phillipines model from a few years back.I use one that after a peak and tune does 4 watts dead key and swings to almost 20 watts on AM,more on sideband.

You could also go with an export model like the new Magnum S9 which is a freebanders radio if you dont mind spending a bit more.

PM me if youd like more info...

yeah, same in northern cali.. not a whole lot of talk.. and if there is, it's usually spanish. CBs are really only useful on the trail around here.
