So I'm "going in" for round 2 of sound deadening (this episode: floors and roofliner) and need to take out my system.

Problem is, I was a wuss and had the amps/cap installed for me instead of doing it myself. So i have no idea if unhooking the capacitor from the amps is dangerous...

Obviously, disconnecting the bat is the first step...then what? do i have to drain the capacitor?

Yes the cap needs to be drained, it can be done without but depending on the amount of joules, it can cause a nasty shock.

You know how you test 9volt batteries by putting it on your tongue ?

You DONT want to do that with the Cap.

Well it depends on home many joules the cap is,it won't be enought to kill you but i dont want to try it out. The more joules=more stored power= more pain.

lol I have a batcap800 to tend with 2. If i did that between my cap and that battery I think I could get fried.

any tips on how to drain/recharge one? obviously i'll google it, but i always prefer a fellow yotatecher's opinion....

I have two Monster 1.0 caps, bought one new other used. Their was a little circuit board that came with the new one for powering up and draning it. If i had two I will send you one. Ill check when I get home to see if I might have two.

Couldn't you just hook up a regular 12V auto light bulb to it? You'd get a "visual for when it was fully discharged.

They can be dangerous, the one I have was from the military, only .8 farad, but free. The first time I just hooked it up in parallel with the amp power, and when I plugged the fuse in, it blew a 35 amp right in my fingers. So, I now use a couple 4 ohm sand-filled resistors in series to charge it up before the fuse, and it has worked fine.
