Good Radio Reception

I recently acquired a 97 4runner without a head unit or antenna. I live in an area with very few good radio stations and the ones that you get here come in very weak. I've got about $150 for the head unit and antenna. Does anyone have any good ideas on a combination that would get really good reception? I would also like the head unit to have an aux input and usb (both rear if possible but not a deal breaker). I don't really know what contributes to good radio reception so any help would be awesome. Thanks.

Save up a little more. Buy a kenwood kdc Hd545U, as well as a Sirius sattelite tuner. Subscribe to Sirius radio and don't look back.

cb antenna with an adapter for the stereo. that's how I have mine hooked up. not alot of people realize you can do this.

this is antenna adapter you would use to go from the PL-259 connector on the cb cable into the stereo. : http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...uctId=2104055#

ps don't use the same cb antenna you have hooked up to your cb

Where's a good placed to info about different cb antennae. I've never really done anything with cb radio stuff. Not opposed to it, I'm just getting into all this stuff. What are some different mounting locations?

Your crazy. I haven't wanted to turn on the actual radio since I subscribed to sirius. To each they're own.

Good luck.

I have XM which is essentially the same programming as Sirius now. I still like to listen to local stations and talk radio sometimes. But 95% of the time it's XM.

OP: I have a Pioneer deck, and it has a pretty strong radio tuner. My antenna sucks, but the tuner makes up for that.

I just installed a Pioneer DEH-3200UB in my 96 4runner and I like it so far. I paid $125 for it shipped to my door (buyitnow auction on ebay).

It does take some getting used to the controls, but it has the IPOD connectivity as well as aux and USB.

I also happen to have a refurbished Pioneer DEH-2200UB unit that I accidentally won on ebay last week. It also has aux, ipod connectivity, and USB. Check it out and if you are interested let me know. I paid $80 total with shipping, so I'm hoping to find someone to buy it for ~$80 so I only lose out on a couple bucks shipping it myself.

Edit: This is the auction, and I haven't even opened the box it was shipped in.

So what I'm guessing is that good reception is a combination of the head unit and the antenna? Is that right? I know the guy at the radio store told me that there is nothing you can do about reception. Each car is going to get what he is going to get. Same guy told me that they didn't make head units with rear aux inputs. Why is he working at a radio store?

I used to have a DEH-6800MP. Now it's a 3200, I think. Both have sting tuners especially ones with the Supertuner 3. Maybe they have supertuner 4 by now, I don't know. I haven't been in the market for a new stereo for a while.
