Yet another 3rd Gen rear bumper thread

Ok so I started my bumper a long time ago but it is now 98% done. Just need to finalize the license plate mount/lights, trailer plug (7 pin mounted flush in main tube next to receiver), and the trim piece on top to cover gap between bumper and rear hatch. If you go to my Photobucket you can detailed pics of the entire build...http://s686.photobucket.com/albums/v...oldier/bumper/

Here are just a few from start to current.

end of phase one, hate when you only get a few hours here and there.

Drove around like this for a few months since I could never get time when my friend could let me use his welder and garage. Third and final stage for current status was the swing away carrier. Yes I know there are a few things I need to fix but it works for now.

Hey nice job! The thing looks slick and very burly. The swing away is pretty crafty too! nice work...any DIY project is is way more satisfying then going out and buying something, no matter how much time it takes...cause anyone can throw down a bunch of cash and have someone else bolt it on....

That thing turned out SWEET! Just because someone owns a shop doesn't mean the quality is going to be better. I've seen nicer things come from garages for alot less. Big props to you for making your idea come to life especially with the curcumstances you were forced to deal with. (I know them all too well myself!) Did you get those thick shackle mounts at the same place you provided the link above for?

Shackle Mounts came from Rockstopmer, they also have Tire Carrier hinges, but they dont offer as a kit with the latches.

Thank you for the compliments.

Thanks, and if only i had a welder too. Had to drive 60 miles each way to my buddies house to do this in his garage. His schedule and mine never meshed so that is another reason it took six months. When you can only match a saturday here and there and design build as you go from what is in your head it takes a lot longer.

Hopefully those links help you guys out. Beefed Taco, on the Rockstomper site they offer a builders pack on the carrier pivots.

Really nice, good work, and it does look like pro work.

Is that 2x4x.25 tube or 2x5x.25 tube?

I go the the steal scrap yard every week to see what they have. Picked up about 25 feet of 2x4x.25 tube the other day. Got it for several projects that I want to do, (shop press and tubing bender) but would also like to do my bumpers with it. I was just thinking that I might want the beefer look of 2x5 tube.

I think I am going to follow your lead on this.

Thanks, and thanks for letting us know where you got the hardwear.

2x4x.25 wall rear tube, the main change that I might want to change is the tire carrier bottom tube will be changed out to 2x3 instead of current 2x2 tube. The sides are 1/8 plate steel with 1x1 tube bracing. I went with the 2x4 instead of 2x5 to try to gain the little extra departure angle.
