welder wars: miller 135 vs 175

am going to buy one or the other, and need some pros and cons from all y'all. the 135 is 110 so more portable, the 175 is 220 and has 10% more duty cycle. any other biggies you can think of?

We currently have both a 135 and a 210 in our shop. The 135 is great for the portability and does great on most things on our rigs. The 210 is just a much nicer unit. Nice FATTIES! Everything you could need to weld for a rig and then some.

Rugbys right, you'll never regret gettin' the bigger unit but it comes down to where you'll use it and for what.

When I weld in place, alot of times I use the 135 cuase of the smaller gun is easier to fit tight spaces but if I have a chance to lay the project on the welding table, I use the 210.

Happy !

i would love to go to the 210, but the $500 price jump is just a bit out of reach. mostly, i will be welding on my rig, other's rigs etc. so it will be mostly 3/16" steel and down. if i need to do anything thicker, i can always do multi-pass.

I weld outside all the time with my MIG, you just have to make sure there's no wind blowing, or just set-up a tarp to block it.

i went ahead and got the 175 -- i think the 10% more duty cycle was the kicker for me. should arrive middle of next week -- friggin' holiday weekend...
for portability, i will just have to pick up a readywelder.

we did a lot of work in our welding shop with a 175, it was great for welding on frames and such.

however, i'm a stick welder myself and never got the hang of mig(though dual shield flux core and tig came to me easily), but i don't mind welding 18 gauge sheet metal with nothing more than a buzz box and some rod
