GM tow hook questions

OK, I was looking at my stock tow hook and was noticing how much it reduces my aproach angle, kinda sticks out like a sore thumb. On late 90's GM 4x4 trucks they have a hook that mounts sidways and is really beafy. I wonder if this could be made to fit since I have no imediate plans for front shackle points I thought this may be an option as well as the idea of mounting the factory hook on the side of the frame rail. any thoughts and/or pictures of what you've done would be apreciated

Mike
