I'm finally getting around to installing my Polk DB6500 front component speakers and I'm having a little trouble trying to figure out where to mount the cross-over (it's pretty big).

I'm hoping others who have installed component speakers can chime in with where they installed their cross-over.

I was thinking maybe in the front kick panel and then routing the wires into the door, but perhaps there is somewhere better.

maybe under the radio in that big area ? your gonna have to run new speaker wires anyways may as well make it easy

In the door There is a place where it will fit, though the door panel wont fit back 100% but it is barly noticible

I doubt it will go in the front kick panel. Thats been taken up by computer stuff already I think.

dont put it in the door panel, water will ruin it. i put mine in the glove box

This what I used to mount my Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.5 component speakers in my 4Runner. If you feel like spending the money these will offer the best sound because they offer the best stereo imaging as compared to mouting your speakers in the doors.

That's a perfect spot for the crossovers. I have the same DB's speakers too.

On the passenger side, there's a ABS control box and right above it should be a white plastic "fastener" that "holds" a few wires in place. Take that piece out and toss it. Push those wires aside and the crossover can sit sideways directly on top of the ABS box.
The driver's side has plenty of room.

You can actually put it up and to the right behind the glove box. It's tight getting it in there but it won't move.

For those of you that installed the cross-overs in the kickpanel area, did you splice into the existing factory wires, or did you run new wires from the receiver to the crossover?

I'm thinking about splicing into the existing wires and then running new wires through the door for the woofer and tweeter.

I ran new wires from crossovers to an amp that I put under drivers seat.

I'm surprised you don't have an amp for those speakers. You'll never get the full potential out of them with a measly 50 watt radio.

50 watts out of a head unit is a marketing number at best. More like 15w. Crossover? I just run it active

In all seriousness though, there's plenty of room in and around the dash for things like that.

I put mine in the door. Wrap them and try and waterproof them the best you can. I never had any problems with them in the door and they were nice and out of the way.

I'm driving them with 22w RMS, I know kinda weak for these speakers, but I'm sure they'll sound better than the stockers.

Shouldn't be any water behind the door panel.

Water can get in down the window when you open and close it or mist in through the drain holes in the bottom of the door.

I hid mine attached to the top of the glove box... I had to slightly mod the "drawer" to clear them but they are perfectly protected from any source of wet and are relatively accessible for adjustment.

if they were to get wet there it would make no difference the HU and speakers would already be submerged
