ive got a set of 33x14.50x15 swamper ssr's that are waiting for a lift to be put on the truck. the shops ive been calling have said that i need 8!!!" of lift to clear them... what is the deal with this? could anyone that uses ssr's, preferably this size on a truck fill me in on what you needed to do to clear them? i was just wanting to get a 3" body lift, but the shops said i wouldnt be able to clear the tires. i dont know if its them trying to get another $1200 for the lift, or if its really the case. if anyone has some suggestions or help to lend id appreciate it. - josh

also ive been quoted $1200 for gears and another $800 for a detroit tru trac, what is the normal going rate? and should i be able to get a discount if i get them done together? anyone know some decent shops around jacksonville florida? thanks again for the help.

no it's a 4wd. i've called 4 shops around here, and they all have said something about needing more than body. i have 32x11.50x15 and just wanted a wider tire. what about the back spacing on the rims. i havent bought them yet, tire kingdom just gave me a bunch of lingo trying to sell them to me. what is a safe length (?) of backspacing on the rims, to get them off the side of the truck? i've already got the tires, so im just tryin to find the easiest route to getting them on now.

They're wrong, but not by much.... it's the 14" width that's the issue. They need to go on 10" rims, and with just enough offset to clear your suspension and steering components, when you turn the wide swing they'll make will rub all over the place. For 33x12:50s on 8" rims you would only need 3" of lift for clearance. For those 14s you will probably need more. The good news? is that Swampers run small, they are almost a whlole size smaller than they claim, but I still bet they'll rub with only a 3" body lift. I have a 4" suspension lift plus 3" body lift and have no issues with 35s, 37s just barely rubbed occasionally and that was on 8" rims.

is it possible to have too much offset? i mean if i can just get a 3" body and have the tires stick out off the truck a lot it will be alright, right? i don't to do it if theres a higher risk of breaking other parts...

Yes, the tires sticking out farther is the problem. The farther out they stick the farther they "swing" when you turn, making them contact the bumper and the fender. You could easily get your 32's to rub if you went with 8" rims with a lot of offset.

Fitment guides are funny. Some of them seem to assume you'll never so much as hit a bump or don't care if they rub (you actually CAN run 33s an first gen with no lift at all, but they WILL rub very time you turn sharp or go over into a driveway.) and some seem to think like rock crawlers - I saw one once that said 4" lift plus fender trimming is required to run 32s on a 1st gen. Insane. Then some are only listing factory tire sizes.

Thats not true...I've got a 1" Roger Brown body lift on my rig and no rubbing what so ever except on the stupid plastic fender liner...are we talkin about the same kinda truck here?

swampers run small? aren't they the closest you can get to the actual size the tire says?> that's just what i've always heard and seen when my buds 33 inch swampers are almost as big as a set of 35 inch BFG

ok, does height make as big of a difference as width does, when it comes to rubbing? what about 1" tbar/blocks and 3" body with 33x12.50 or 34x12.50? i'd still like them to stick out, when should i stop? i apologize for all of the questions, but google just cant answer what i need to know. would gears be needed with 33's or even 34's? i think my truck has 4.11's in it now. i cant wheel in 4 high at all with 32x11.50 so would 4lo and a locker, without gears, suffice in mud? what are "normal" prices for locker installs? again, thank you everyone that is helping me on my quest.

one last one.. would a 10" rim be better for 12.5 than an 8?

I've always known Swampers to run close to listed size. Closer than most any other manufacturer. Of course, the rim size has quite a bit to do with it.

For a 12.5 I think a 8" would be best but im no tire expert!
