tacoma throttle body question

downey has this on their website...

POWER BREATHER THROTTLE BODIES

Power Breathers are cleaned and rebuilt high performance Throttle Bodies that have been bored out 3mm oversized. Power Breathers can be obtained by submitting your core in advance, with a 2 to 5 day machining time turn around.

is it worth it

By the way its for a n/a 3.4 tacoma

If it costs 2 cents, yes it's worth it. Else, it's not. Here is why:

1) You can bore your intake yourself (https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...ght=gasket+mod FOUND IT BY SEARCHING!!!)

2) Adding a TRD sticker to the side of your truck will yield a greater performance increase over this mod.

As far as I know, no one on this board has (for that engine), but I might be wrong.

Unlike some of Downey's other offerings, this one is not much different than from what you can do yourself with a dremel, expect maybe a rounder result, for which you probably have to pay a high price.

what is the cost / benefit to this?

like other similar devices, the gains you *might* eek out w/ this is probably very neglible. the only performance increasing mod i'd ever consider is the supercharger and possibly these new 3rd gen turbos coming out. thats it.

edit: i would take a Type R sticker. decreases body panel drag to 0.34

Hey Jeff...

A couple of folks have done this on their own (myself included), and like Marko says, it's not worth it... It doesn't matter if Downey does it or not, 3mm at the TB on these engines won't give you anything.

I know you're looking for more power on the cheap, but you've already done what you can. Learn from the rest of our experiences and keep saving your $$$ for a S/C or Node's turbo setup.

Mark-
what do you think of your downey headers, i have heard that this is a hard truck to install headers on, how did it go for you.

It's a TOTAL PITA dude. I've reitterated the story many times here, but here's what I said on my site: http://midiwall.com/4Runner/headers.html

And btw... guess what? I'm again gonna tell you to save your money. As long as you're N/A, you do NOT want to spend the time/money on headers. The stock exhaust manifolds let the N/A engine exhale just fine, you only need more exhale performance when you start making it inhale deeper. i.e., turbo or S/C.

My bro installed a URD Throttle Body Gasket on his 2001 Tacoma and told me he noticed a "difference".
If i owned a 3.4 i could see/explain a few reasons why i'd buy one.

of coarse it's not the same. I posted that cause people are saying the Downey 'bore' is a waste...and i agree. For $6 the gasket is worth every penny.

Far as the "difference" in the gasket, theres none....Except better air flow and the fact you wont be trapping dirt.
