Synthetic Gear Oil????

So I am planning on putting in an Aussie locker soon. While I'm in there I figure it would be a good time to try out some synthetic gear oil. I hear that it will improve lubrication and decrease friction/improve mileage. Is this true/worth it? And if so what type of oil should I use?

Aussie says that it will take 1-2 hours for a rear install....how accurate is that?

Ok all I know about synthetic gear oil is that when I put it in my 89 toyota PU it leaked alot. This was in my mannual tranny and transfer case, I would guess that it would do the same in the diff. When I took out the oil I put in regular and it stopped leaking within a couple 100 miles, I was told by the shop that it is because of that age of the seals, so if you are outting in new seals I would go for it but if the sealls are old don't put inthe synthetic.

For the initial 500 mile break in just use some dino gear oil, 80w 90 from your local auto parts place and then when you replace it to get all the little metal chips from the break in out, go to synethetic then so you don't spend all that money just to dump it in a few weeks for the break-in.

I saw a show on the speed channel where they dyno'd a mustang with dino oil. Then switched to Royal Purple in the engine, diff, transmission....dyno'd it again and had almost 10 extra HP....I was pretty impressed, I know that dyno runs can vary from run to run but not usually 10 HP....so I'm sure there is some decrease in friction...

Cool I look forward to switching.....but probably after 3,000 miles (might as well wait for an oil change.

As for the seals, do you mean near the wheels??? I think those just got replaced. Or do you mean by the driveshaft. Why would synthetic leak more? because it is thinner?
