New starter contacts. I just did it to mine, starts every time now. You can try hitting it with a hammer to get it home, then replace them. I got the parts for 21 bucks, both contacts and the plunger

Thanks dude we tapped the starter unit and it worked after a few tries. I think my friend is just gonna have it serviced at his mechanic's shop doesn't look like something that should be tackled by a novice. Thanks again.

Well, it isn't that hard really, depends if you have the right tools though. once you get it out, its simple. But make sure he knows that he doesn't need a whole new starter. the Contacts, and plunger are all you need to get it fixed.
Should save a whole load of $ with that info.

Most shops will put a substandard aftermarket crap starter in too. A rebuilt OEM starter will be much better than a new cheapie.

Well due to the location I don't think he wants to go through the trouble of replacing the contacts himself. He said he'll look into it but its not a priority in his list of things to get done atm.

Yeah I'm aware of this. Most of the time I either get a new part though I haven't ever used any rebuilt parts before. I'll do it on my next runner when I get a new one.
