Replaced 3.4 (5VZ-FE) - new motor won't start

fear of 12 year old plastic. tell me about it.
I hate working on old electronics. When I know the fix, and start
popping stuff apart and back together, even with the right tools and torque,
plastic that has outgassed for years often loses it's integrity

That summer, we took it out for testing, and eventually found the culprit, a $0.35 plastic fuse holder that had 2/3 retention features snapped off.
That is a reason to be mad, 'cause the year old car is essentially useless as it must be rebuilt every year. Congrats on the working 4runner, and good job on the swap. I like seeing people take on such big projects.

Sounds similar to my fuel sending unit swap last weekend. Dropped the tank, swapped the unit, put it all back together, including skid plate. Wouldn't start. Had to re-drop the tank to find out I just hadn't plugged the fuel pump plug all the way back in. The click of that connector caused mixed emotions. But the truck was running so all was right in the world again.

Yes; I knew it would be something easy, worried about finding it. I can be glad I made the decision to go with someone who knew the 3.4 / 5VZ-FE system because talking through all the conditions, tests, etc., made it easier to find. I don't have any independent Toyota specialists in my area at all.

I don't remember specifically, but I think it was about a 3-4 day job in terms of total time. I think I did it across two weekends. It went faster than I expected but wasn't for the faint of heart. A lift would have been helpful and sped a few things up.

Great thread. I'm having the same issues, plan on using the information here to find the solution. Thanks for taking the time to post
Update: That was my problem too. Glad I did some research, this just saved hours if not days of frustration.
