gah, that just sucks. Gives me appreciation that I live in the south. Only problem with rust I might ever encounter is from the city salting the roads when we have ice storms. Good luck gettin her cleaned up.

Seriously... I have a 93 with various oil leaks, and a 94 with no oil leaks.... which one ya think is rusted??? The 93 has NO rust what so ever, the 94, I'm worried how I'm gonna keep it together.

get some rust undercoating spray can. i did that on the frame. it helps. I will be spraying everywhere underneath soon. you should do it now before winter comming in your area. it costs me only 10 bucks a can.

That's not that bad, except the rear axle. Do you spray the undercarriage regularly?

Every fall I "Rust Check" it myself and every spring I use rust paint and spray the entire under carriage. It seems to keep my 97 Runner looking good and prevent the chrome bumpers from rusting inside out

Nothing to worry about, but the sooner you treat it the better off you'll be. Might want to take a wire brush or something to the diff though. Take a look at some oily/waxy stuff called Fluid Film, I use it on both vehicles and it holds up well. Best of all you can buy it an an aerosol can to do touch-ups. I bought a big can of it and plan on using a spray gun to apply it. Rust Check is good too. Either product, just make sure you do it every year.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I recently got a second truck (ford ranger 4x4 v6) hey it was free. this will become the daily driver so I will be doing a lot of work on the 4Runner in the next few months. going to wire brush everything and treat it with POR15. as for the PP1 inch spring and Bilsteins I lovem.

(sorry for hijacking). Quick question. Where do you get Fluid film? Is ordering through their webpage only way to purchase that? And when you say big can, is it coming on a bottle so that you can apply with brush or something?

Are you parking on grass, the only time Ive seen rust like that is when the truck has been sitting for long periods of time on grass

Well I just bought mine at a local part store, large hardware stores like Canadian Tire and Wal-Mart sell it in the aerosol cans. I imagine NAPA carries it too. By big can, I meant like a paint can size a few liters or a gallon. You can apply it by brush, but I'd recommend using a spray gun (although I have yet to try the spray method, I've brushed it on before).

I am in Michigan. thanks for the info. the webpage does not show any closer location in my area though. I will stop by wal-mart afterwork to see if it is available there. If I find one, I bet my rig will take FFilm bath over this weekend. Great!!!!

It does not look that much bad as it is. I believe there are still plenty of life left. But you may pay attention to those left/right front stabilizer bar links (not the bar itself). With such amount of rust, any of them may soon break away...

Also, apparently, you could use either some oils or rust inhibitors etc to "slow down" such rapid oxidization.

I bought the 4Runner used,it was some chicks toy car for summers in cape cod. it sat for most of its life during the winter. poor girl (4Runner) got no love. I picked her up with 50000 almost 3 years ago and have been putting TLC into her every chance I get.
