midrange speakers

I'm thinking about getting a set of 4" midrange speakers to put in the dash where the stock 4 inchers used to be, to compliment my Infinity Reference 605cs speakers. My question is, would I be able to run them off the receiver with no problems? The Infinity's are run off of my 4 channel amp.

I'm not too terribly knowledgible in this area, but I believe it would be no problem to do this. There should be plenty of outputs and since your other speakers are drawing from an external amp, I would imagine that all of the internal amp's power would be available for the 4" speakers as well resulting in a good crisp output...

Someone correct me on any of this if I'm wrong or just talking out of my ass!

I'm not really having much luck finding some speakers either. Infinity doesn't seem to make them in that flavor and the only others that I've found I don't know much about: Kicker (the only one I do know is pretty decent), CDT, and Visonik.

Basically I'm trying to pick the best pair to match the Infinity's, so if anybody can make some suggestions that'd be great.

i know from experience it's hard to find a good, high quality 4 inch. if you find a good one, you're gonna pay top dollar for it. they cant put out great highs or great lows. 4 inches are just bad speakers, period.

but since you gotta go 4s... its gonna cost ya

I don't know what kind of room you've got down there, but maybe you could do some cutting and bend some thin metal for custom mounting brakets to allow for bigger speakers? I'm not sure if there are any vital components butting up against anything on the drivers side but I guess the glove box would be a problem on the PS... yeah nevermind.

Shot in the dark - anybody make kickpanels for your application? I thought they made them for the 2nd gen 4Runner, wouldn't it be the same or similar for you?

Actually, I don't even want to go bigger than 4". All I basically want is something that's gonna make the midrange frequencies stand out better. I might even just go with a regular 2-way 4", since you guys are saying that they already cant handle the highs and lows well at all. So it might be like midrange in itself.
