How cool 1st Gen 4runners?

Air conditioning, that is: we were trying out an 86 in SoCal in around 95 degrees today, and the A/C seemed overwhelmed (or rather, its cold air output was markedly underwheming). Is this a regular condition of this car or would this be an indication of something being amiss?

My '88 gets real cold.
We don't use A/C much up here in the Pacific Northwest

The AC will have a tendency to get cooler when driving(moving) as the compressor is controled by belts. When your motor revs, your compressor spins, and it gets cooler inside. Sometimes, when it is unbearably hot and I am stuck at a light. I will rev my motor a touch to get the compressor spinning.

When bought 2 years ago my A/C was underpowered, and hactually made this cool fog come out in to the cab. Got weaker and weaker and now it doesn't cool at all. Don't really care since I have the windows open most of the time, but I kinda miss the fog...

Just take it down and have your system re charged. That will solve it.

YOu can buy a tester at a auto-parts store. They make a gauge you put on there and see what the freon level is. You can then add freon (assuming you've uptrade to R134 i think it is) to your current system for more cooling power.

I will probably never bother to get this recharged, didn't even have AC on my 86, barely use it this time. I would do body work first. Maybe I could just put in a fog machine...

Fog machine would be cool.

When I was getting my suspension fixed I was driving a 76 cadillac. It had an 8track and I was cranking zeppelin. It was a cool morning and I had the windows up. Turns out the heater core was busted because the car quickly filled with steam. There was afilm over everything. I opened the window once I couldn't see out the back window anymore. I can only imagine the cloud of smoke pouring out of the car.

Then I got pulled over. A long haired guy cranking zeppelin with smoke pouring out his windows must look pretty suspicious. The cop let me go after he figured out it was just coolant.

Has anyone upgraded their fan blower to a stronger one. My ac is cool but I want it to push with more force.

there 1st gens, just pop the top and roll the windows down. all the air needed.
1st gens rule, on my third one now.

any of you ever see a toyota trekker ?spelling. they were a toyota truck sent to winebago to have a 4runner(surf) style mod done to them. early 80's very kewl. have only seen two here.

Michigan Rusted Rice, but they still run awsome!!!!!!!!!
