Exhaust, what have you done

I am rebuilding my 4Runner. Engine rebuild and a good healthy lift. I do not want to put the factory cross over exhaust back on. I'd prefer to just run a dual exhaust set-up with an H pipe, but I have to look at if that is really possible with the fuel tank where it is.

Either way, single or dual here is my question:

Where does everyone with a custom exhaust have their tail pipe located? Straight out the back will give less clearance. I thought about in front of the rear wheels, but that might get in the way of some sliders if/when installed later. Is the stock location right behind the wheels the only real option?

smart mod move

Very smart to be ditching that pos crossover pipe. Its worthless. Run the duals side by side and split them up after the T case. I think you could run a Y pipe at that point splitting the two. Take them up over the rear end and drop them right after it behind the rear wheel wells. They will not be a concern when it comes to rubbing and will not be coming out the back giving an odor in the rear window when opened. Just my 2 cents. Ben

I just had my pipe dumped about a foot after the muffler.

My tip is in the stock location, but I will be moving it in front of the rear tire very soon - I think.

Do you have sliders? I'd like to see picture if you have sliders and go this route.

I do have sliders, and I will post a pic/pics if I do this. Essentially the exhaust will turn about 16 inches after the cat and exit right under the frame just in front of the tire. A steel brace will then be welded in to the spot where the exhaust crosses under the frame to prevent it from being smashed. The exhaust will be really close to the trailing bar pivot point.

My only concern is exhaust fumes at idle with the rear window open.
