Exclamation Electrical Failure

Ok first off i have a 96 Limited V6 4x4 (auto). ok now to the good stuff. today while off-roading i was going to flex on a hill and then go over it down a "trail." well there was no trail, just a HUGE pond in which my right side sunk about 2.5 feet in water while the left stayed most dry. I now have no stereo, no alarm, no power door locks, no dome lights, no clock, the head lights and tail lights wont turn off unless i remove the fuse. The horn had to be ripped out because it went off after i was pulled out of the pond and wouldnt shut off after the truck was off, all fuses removed and nothing connected to the battery. (very odd) The engine and tranny are fine i never turned it off after i splashed down. I also have the abs, airbag and parking brake light that come on and off randomly while i drive now. The power windows however still work along with the moon roof. The power steering is fine as well as the braking too. Over-drive (4th) works fine too. I need help figureing out if its just the computer that is shorted or the whole system. None of the fuses in the fuse box are blown so i have no clue. Any help??

Wow. That's pretty amazing.

My dad had a similar problem in his Buick. He would be driving down the road and his doors would start locking and unlocking, the dash lights going all crazy, and the interior lights blinking. The engine would even shut off on him every now and then while driving. It was sorta like being abducted by aliens or something crazy like that.

Anyhow, your problem sounds pretty close to his, so, while I'm no pro at electrical, I would venture that you have a shorted or bad computer. That's what it turned out to be on my dad's car anyways. Only problem he's had on his car with 215,000 miles on it (original tranny too).

BTW, welcome to the forum!

Have fun,
