Unless it is something new with the 03's, that is not normal.

Engaging the rear locker disables ABS, so I'm pretty sure it is normal.

Well ok that makes sense then. My 98 did not have ABS therefore I wouldn't know about the ABS light when I turned the locker on.

Learn something new everday here!

yeah, the manual says that the ABS light on is normal. I tried the figure 8, too, and it clicked right in. Then it didn't want to disengage so I did the figure 8 and it clicked right out. It must just be new and stubborn. And by figure 8 i mean i really only turned the wheel one direction and started to move forward and it clicked right in/out. Thanks for the tip!
Ed

EDIT: my new truck is sweet

Try engaging/disengaging when the tranny is in "Neutral"

Sorry MrTom, that won't work either, unless the gears happen to be perfectly aligned at that moment. The vehicle must be in motion for things to align properly, thus the need to go a short distance in forward or reverse.

Invincible, check for a thread I posted just a couple days ago, I was having problems with my locker for a different reason. Someone posted a link to the electrical diagrams for the locker. You need to be careful how you jump the electricity, or you can cause further problems when the brushes for the electric motor become misaligned. That link has alot more details and a better explaination than I can give.
