CV Boot Truble???, HELP

Hey guys,

I recently just got me a new rig, 3rd gen 5spd 4x4 E-locked. Since I got her home and did some driving witht he windows down I noticed a small "tink, tink, tink" sound it seemed to be coming from the front somewhere, well I climbed under her this morning and m worst fear came true, there as CV oil splatteredall over the place on the drivers side. I had checked out the outer boots before I bought it, but the inner boot is torn cmpletley off the shaft. I have no idea how long this has been like this seeing how I just bought it.

My question is, worst case scenario, how much could this repair cost? Also, this truck is now my daily driver now, so will continuous drving do more damage and make things worse off?

PLEASE help me out here guys, I know you will. Thanks in advance.

Well, I might be able to give you some insight. Toyota wants two arms and a leg for these axles. About $380 a axle, but you can get them at a local parts store for around $90 with a $100 core, at least thats what I was quoted. Looks like they're going to be about an hour a side labor. I know it sucks, but thats just how it is.

Hey would you say that this might be something I can tackle on my own? Also would continual drivin mess things up worse, it seems as though it's been this way for awhile now, the CV oil looks old.

There's more than a few people on the forums that have done this before (although I'm not one of them), its just a matter of time till they chime in. I think the consensus is that its a fairly easy thing to do.

Check out www.carquest.com for a price on an axle shaft.
