Considering Going Back to OEM Wheels - Advice?

After only a few days with my Pro Comp Xtreme Alloys (https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/new-wheels-today-72007/), I am seriously considering taking the truck to a local shop and having them remount my OEM wheels. With 4" backspacing, and no flares, the tires stick out about 1.5" up front and 2" in back. The truck looks lower because the tires stick out (though I know this is a trick on my eyes), and it looks a little ghetto. I have considered OEM Limited flares, and even Bushwacker flares, but I'm not sure if I'd like the look in the end on my color/model 4Runner (I do think the Limited's like grimpy's, and in particular those with body color flares like bamachem's, look great).

I have been day-dreaming about these wheels for months. My wife drove the truck yesterday so that I could see it on the road the way others would, and it looks awesome if I do say so myself. I just hate the way the wheels stick out. It looks like I have no idea what I'm doing. I tried wheels with more backspacing, but they did not clear the calipers.

Anyone want to talk me off the ledge, or buy a set of three-day-old Xtreme Alloys?

Take a pic of the backend of your runner so we can see how bad it really looks.

I think you're worrying too much! I saw the pics yesterday and it really looks nice! Through the years and changing tire/wheel combos on 4x4's, Mustangs, etc, I've been through the same thing. It's just because they're new and different and you're still getting used to them. You said it yourself, it looked good rolling. You're just more used to seeing it sitting still (because you're usually driving) and you know how it did look. How many years did you own it with the OEM wheels? So now you're just seeing change. My vote is keep them and get some flares.

I think the wheels look excellent on your truck. If you want flares I would have to agree with filthyrich on adding some sr5 flares instead of going with an aftermarket flare. I would definately consider the flares before putting the oem wheels back on.

Get some flares and stick them up with tape and see before you do something rash.

If you still don't like them - send them to me.

dont go back to OEM i love those wheels (i have them too) and they look really good with that color. mine stick out too just like yours, i think my back spacing is 3.75 instead though. but i have just the black plastic SR5 flares which help and i think the black trim on your color runner would look great. i would say try finding some of those for cheap and going from there.

Limited-style flares with your truck would look great. Somebody else (I can't find the post) has the same color as your truck and went with the whole limited flare look and the newer bumpers. He also painted the whole truck dark grey and it looked great.

SR5 flares are nice and give a more outdoorsy look b/c they're black. If I had a choice, I would go with the beefier flares, especially since your tires stick out that far. The wheels look great BTW.

Click here to see a few pictures. The first picture is the 285/75 BFG's on the OEM 16x7 wheels. The second and third pictures are the new 16x8 Pro Comps.

As far as exchanging them for a wheel with more backspacing, I test fitted a set of Mickey Thompson Classic II's with 4-7/16" backspacing, and they wouldn't clear the calipers.

Thanks for the comments and recommendations. I made my wife drive it around town so I could look at it again, and it looks awesome rolling. Between the black OEM flares, and the wider Limited flares, I think I would prefer the Limited flares color-matched to my 4Runner. Anyone selling a complete set? I will have them painted, so original color is not a concern.

By the way, mine stuck out too when I first got my new rims. I hated the look at first but after putting some flares on, you don't even notice it.

I saw the pictures the other day when you posted them, I think they look sweet! Personally I would love the aggresive look of the tires sticking out of the fenders. I would agree with the others, buy some flares.

I WISH my wheels stuck out a little bit. Looks better, I think. Not a ton, but an inch or so is great. Keep 'em!
