Badland Bumpers Sliders and Flares

Here are the pics of the Badland Bumpers Sliders and Bushwacker Extend-a-Fender Flares (Just took them this morning...yawns..long watch last night). Sorry that I don't have the requisite pic of the truck lifted by the sliders, but they are stout, and passed the test the other day ago.

Very nice!

The combo of the black flares, Street Lock type wheels, and the sliderz look great on your rig.

If I had a dark colored rig, I'd probably get those wheels as I like the Bead Lock type of look.

The sliderz look really nice.
I can't tell if you had Carol paint them, or if you had the guy Jeff uses to powder coat them.

Here are some old pics when I Hi-Lift tested my sliderz.

I *just* got back from visiting Jeff about making a set for me. He has a pretty nice shop out there.

Did you go with the most narrow ones (for width, I think it was something like 3.5")? I wasn't too sure which to do, but I ended up just going with them.

As far as the sloders, I don't know whether they are "wide" or "narrow" ones. I ordered them, and these are what I got.

Mine are extra wide.

His normal ones are 3" or so I think between tubes.
Mine are 4.25" or so, but I actually could have gone with 5" and it would look better sticking out with the flares.

Yeah, he said the standard ones are around 3". He makes them bigger (wider) if requested, and if the tires on the rig are big (33"+). I dunno, figured I just needed enough to protect the body.

The main thing that prompted my getting sliders was the noticable dent I got on the last 4x4 trip. It was down to Browns Camp, just east of Portland, OR.

The run was pretty cool, I'm *still* pretty impressed that we made it up a "Most Difficult" trail when our Tacos were just barely above stock. I did end up with the dent from a "VW sized rock" (as Rob called it), but otherwise it was just a lot of tight squeezes. It was more extreme than Tahuya or Naches.

(...put some pressure on Rob to finish the write-up, so all of you can see what we went through...I'm sure he will appreciate me saying that )

I forgot to mention that the body damage is visible on the top pic above from the 23 NOV 02 Tahuya trip. I figured that I would rather spend the money on the sliders than the deductible for the body repairs. After all there is surely more body damage to follow, right? Too bad I had to learn my lesson about the Smittybuilt "show" nerfbars the hard way.

Yeah, I can see a couple dents. Not too shabby.

Hopefully you aren't too superficial (I'm not...this truck will eventually be "trail-only"). It's more fun to get out and not worry about body damage (drive-train/engine is an entirely different thing ).

That brings up something else. Jeff made a point of calling them "nerf bars". I dunno, in my mind "nerf bars" are something weak an fragile, like those Smittybuilts.

Sliders (or "rock sliders") sound much more tough.

If I think nerf, I think of the old toys that couldn't hurt anyone. But, damnit that truck is metal and it better hurt someone.

Corey,
Didn't get to see the Taco. She was out driving it somewhere. He did talk about it, but not very fondly. He likes his older Toys much more.

(...the way he has them built up, I cannot blame him... )

Yeah, I know.
That trick red truck he has in the shop use to be a stock gray truck he picked up cheap.

It's come a long ways.
Now that is what I'd like to have for a trail rig and flat bedded.

They are not to impressed with the Revtek lift on her Taco.
Last time I was there I told him about the SAW coil overs like a lot are running, and to look into those.
Especialy with her bumper and winch up front.
That is if they have the winch on now.

I hope to have a rear bumper sometime next year made up by him.
Can't wait to see Seafair's after it gets done.
I don't really need the spare on the back though.
Hard enough to see out the rear now.

But a swing away mount for a jerry can and Hi-Lift would be nice.
That way I could get the two item off of my roof.

Funny you should mention that. I was telling him about the Stout bumpers (by Stout Equip. that has gone out of business) and the bad effect on Tacos.

One of the guys in TTORA had a Stout bumper w/ tire rack & jerry cans (and a canopy)...ended up bending his frame with it. That's some scarry stuff. I don't quite remember who it was, but it was pretty serious.

I'm pretty sure the 4Runner would not be as likely to get that damage...but you have been warned...

Jeff has also been educated on the issue, so he might suggest boxing the frame or something.

Last year Gadget had posted pics and links to the Taco that got ruined from that bumper over on ODW's forum.

For a really rad bumper, check out Rob's bumper here.

I have seen it in person, and it's a work of art.
