bad cat?

my truck's been making this ticking sound from somewhere around the 02 sensor and the cat... I've had a mechanic listen to it and had it checked out at midas, both of them said they couldn't find a leak... so I'm starting to think it's my cat making the noise.?

I'm thinking of ordering a carsound cat or a dynomax, I've searched on here but can't find a site to order it from... does one of these sound good? and if you know of a site that sells them please let me know, thanks guys

When I took out my cat and put a cherry bomb in. My bomb would tick and crackle like crazy even a hour after I turned off my engine. It was all the raw fuel combusting itself in the cherry bomb. When I put a high flow cat back on, it stoped

I'm thinking since this looks like the origonal cat with 183k on it, its probably pretty much done in for anyway.. looked at summitracing.com and they have a 2.25" one from catco for $55.

prolly end up giving one of those a shot, but it would be nice if some of you with aftermarket cats could chime in and lemme know what type you put on.
as long as round fits up in there I'd rather get that than an oval one,.

when I measured mine, it's amost 18" long. The one I'm looking at is 14", is your cat shorter than the origonal one?

Universal, 14 in. long, 2 in. diameter slip fit inlet and outlet, stainless steel, catalytic converter

just ordered that one from summitracing, it's made by catco. figured I'd stay with 2" in case I ever want to go back to stock exhaust instead of 2.25" catback like i'ma do along with a dynomax muffler.

So what do aftermarket cats do ot your exhaust, sound wise? Im looking to get a little bit of a beefier tone from my exhaust, would this help?

Also, your old cat is definetly busted, it makes that sound when part of the filter breaks off. My 89 4Runner had a bad cat in it, and it made a weird ticking sound when going from high RPMs to low.

I think it probably would give it a bit more of a mighty tone haha.

a few years back when I had stock everything, I cleaned the air box and took the air filter out for a min to see if it made a difference... just that gave the stock exhaust a meaner sound. so I got a k&n.

I'm sure the cat would help, also if you don't have 2.5" pipe on your 3.4, maybe welding that from the exit of the muffler out would help also.
