1990 Camry v6 2VZ-FE - CEL Question

History: I've been working on the car to get it to start so have connected and disconnected the battery many times (change plugs, check starter, check distributor, etc....).

Question: When I turn the ignition to the "on" position, The check engine light CEL does not come on. I read a post in another board/forum that in order for the car to start the CEL should come on until I crank it over, or that's not a good sign. I've also tried to jump TE1 and E1 then turned the ignition to "on" to read the codes, but again I can't even get the CEL to come on.

Does anyone know if the CEL light is critical to starting the car? Is there a way of re-setting the CEL? Do you think I have a blown fuse or bad ECU? Any help or suggestions would be helpful, as the other board just blows my questions off.

I'm hoping the 3VZ is similar to this 2VZ....I have a 22RE so this v6 is all new to me.

EDIT: Another question, I pulled my cold start injector, it was filthy black. I want to test if it will spray. If I leave it connected and put it in a jar or wrap a towel around it and then jump the B+ and Bp+ (i think those are the labels) should it spray or do I need to actually try and crank the engine to get it to spray. Want to see if it is clogged with carbon as it does look that way.

Thanks guys.

To test the the CSI put it in a jar still hooked up to the harness. Crank engine when cold.

If the CEL isn't coming on well Id first check ALL of the fuses. The EFI relay as well. If that doesn't work the ECU may be dead...

I checked the fuses behind the driver kick panel and the engine compartment next to battery. Went to dealership and replaced the efi relay, the silver circle looking one (denso) $16.

Did I miss any fuses? Any other suggestions before I scrounge on ebay? or do you know if I can test the ecu?

Found my problem using this thread!

The MAF was it, just like the thread I unhooked it and the CEL came on when I turned the ignition on. Ordered one off ebay so just have to wait to make sure. I'm just glad I got the CEL to come on.
