Hi guys,

I thought this looked SUPER useful for outdoorsman in general, and for trip planning. They designed it for hunters but it seems useful for other things. I like that it has maps of your choice stored localy on the phone, so you can be out of network range and still use the maps. You can mark your waypoints and such. It might make the smartphone a contender for replacing handheld GPS

seems cool... too bad i wont pay that much for an app without trying it first.. i wish there was a free version

I have heard of the back country one, and it seems to be pretty good.
Never heard of the Cabelas one.

Yeah, I like to try apps first, in fact all of my apps on my Droid were free, have not paid for a deluxe version yet.

mapdroyd, and backcountry navigator... those r the 2 I use on my htc evo, and they seem to work well.

I'm going to have to try mapdroyd. Backcountry seems pretty good so far.

Anything that helps track position and destination in the back country will work for me.

There are also a few more "pure" gps apps that I haven't tried yet, but they don't seem to have the map part. They seem more appropriate for geologists or something.

Oh I like that google maps feature! Can you save a database of trips, kind of crating a history of sorts, of your trips and explorations?

I wonder if an android version exists?

ive come across a new app that is much like the motion x one... its called AccuTerra... pretty wicked... downside is that it saves the maps to your physical memory, so its a HD Hog...

ill be upgrading my phone soon, so i will keep my current 32g 3GS iPhone as strictly a music/GPS device...
