3rd gen 4runner Tundra V-8 conversion?
I have searched the archives in vain, but I can't seem to find out if anyone has done a Tundra v8 conversion on a 3rd gen 4runner.
Any information would be appreciated.

Too big and too heavy from what I understand. You would do better with a 1uz swap. THere are a couple of 2nd and 1st gens running around out there with that motor. There is one 3rd Gen swap in progress but it is a 3 year long thing so far and not even done yet. His name on here Cebby. He is also on 1uzswap.com.

You beat me to the 1UZ swap. I have been doning a lot of reading. I am thinking about doing that in about a year and a half when I get back from the box. It doesn't seem to hard if you want to keep it auto. I am going to be sticking with my 5 speed so that will be fun getting a custom bell housing.
The 2UZ, 4.7L V-8 is, of the top of my head, about 300 lbs heavier since it's a cast block and not an aluminium. If you did do that I was reading I guess the first year or so it didn't have the iForce VVT head so that should be easier.
1UZs are a dime a dozen to get one at the junk yard and some cams and some simple mods will get you about 300+ hp.
Hope that helps. Google 1UZ and have fun reading.

Yeah, when my 3.4 pops, I am going straight for the 1uz. Bone stock it slaughters the 4.0 V6 and the 3.4 with an unworked supercharger. I need to do more reading on it but it seems to make the most sense.

I wish Toyota would have offered a V8 version of the 3rd Gen 4Runner, much like they did in 03 or 04. The 4.7 would have been a nice factory option, then our 4Runners could actually tow the 5000 lbs they're rated at.

I've towed about 5k before. It's quite an interesting ride. The 5 speed is nice. My only thing is it's hard for me to justify pulling a perfectly good 3.4 out and putting the the V-8 in. I also don't want to wait another 150k miles before my engine might need replacing. I am thinking about finding a 2nd gen with a blown engine and then putting my 3.4 in it and selling it and that might cover some of what I spent on the 1uz in my 3rd gen.

I think you would be better off pulling your 3.4, selling it and puting in the 1uz. You would get more money for a running 3.4 than puting it in another vehicle and trying to sell it. Seems like an aweful lot of work for the same net...
