Exclamation Found a 3.4L!! Finally doing a swap!

Well i went to my friend who owns a junkyard and asked him for a starter for my 3.0L. And he was not there only a worker and he said "no, only for the 3.4" and i said what 3.4? and low and behold a new vehicle arrived. a 98 4Runner 3.4L V6 (no RR diff lock ). So i am waiting for the call tonight to see how much he wants and if it is within a good range then i will start next week!

So i have a few questions for people who have done this.
where is there a link to a very good/informative swap write-up
it is from an Automatic 98, what problems can i expect with my 5 speed?
i have no body lift, what problems can i expect?
how much is a TRD S/C either 1st or 2nd gen?
What performance items can be done for the 3.4 in a 91?
Can a snorkel still be bought and used?
Should I buy a TRD or K&N air filter?
What else should i get to achive peak performance? such as ISR and what not.

I was about to dye from excitment. So i have my fingers crossed that i can finally do a 3.4L swap and S/C in the future.
Any and all help will be appreciated.

look in the 3.4 swap section for info and some searching will get you answers. going from an auto to 5sp will require you to repin the harness or get a 5spd harness and you will need to aquire a 5sp ecu regardless.

Ive got some info on my thread and there are tons out there on the topic. I think you need to search more to be honest cause all these questions have been answered here or on the web.
it is from an Automatic 98, what problems can i expect with my 5 speed?
Youll have to trick the comp to thinking the trany is in neutral I believe that or convert the haness and ecu to s manual one. search yahoo on a 3.4 speed swap and you should be able to find info on it. I saw a guy with a Taco do it once using the Auto comp.
i have no body lift, what problems can i expect?
Youll have to cut the hood but truly no big deal
how much is a TRD S/C either 1st or 2nd gen?
about 1000 to 3000 depending on where you get it from
What performance items can be done for the 3.4 in a 91?
Intake, exhaust, headers, S/C, gearing, cams, ect
Can a snorkel still be bought and used?
Ide say get one for the 3.4 and mod it to fit your truck. That or make your own thus saving some cash
Should I buy a TRD or K&N air filter?
Neither, Amsoil or AEM IMO
What else should i get to achive peak performance? such as ISR and what not.

Take the gauge cluster out and take the cover off it and turn it back.

There are a ton of threads that cover all of this stuff, but fillsrunner was nice enough to point out the general answers.

This thread will be of great value to you...

This thread will be good too...

This is one of THE best threads out there for a swap...

Good luck on your journey...if I had kept my 2nd gen longer than I did, I definitely would have done the same thing.

Ok, well i got someone who will help me put it in and hook it up. But are there any mods that i will have to do to make the speedo work? or will it just work? I tried searching but there is too much chatter and too much tranny and t-case talk that nothing about the motor is really spoken about. And does anybody know what i would have to do to the 98 Auto ECU to make it work on my 91 manual? or am i 100% going to have to find a manual ecu.

What mods to my truck am i going to have to do? Such as things for the headers, or ECU, or wireing, or rad. or anything at all?

This info is so out there man!

Youll need to make or have made a crosover for the headers or stock manafold as the 3.4 manifold with stock crossover will not fit.

Wiring is cake if you can wire otherwise I sugest ORS's kit and you should definetly check out there site if you want to do this swap if you havent already. They sell kits. They are expensive but good quality. I did mine without it and am glad I did however if you lack wiring skills then youll need it.
If you can wire then get the schematics for both exact yr/model of motor's and start reading!

The stock 3.0 radiator will work perfectly.

Like I also stated before the Auto ecu needs to be tricked into thinking its in neutral. Theres a good site off this forum. Search toyota tacoma and 5speed swaps and you can find it im sure somewere.
Not sure much on the speedo but but its truly somthing that will take you minuets once you figure out what you need for it.

This is a very easy swap. It will bolt right to your origanal 3.0 motor mounts and 5speed tranny. As for wiring it basiacly need to give power to the ECU and the two plugs under the dash need to be spliced into the 2 plugs on the 3.4 engine harness. The two plugs to the dash are located on the pass side under the dash behind the glovebox.

Search cause believe me this info is here.

Tons of info in the 3.4 section and you will have to read between the chatter, so PLEASE learn to search for yourself. At 20 you should be able to search on your own.

Hell, I got shoes older than you.

3.4 engine in shop worth 10 in junkyard.

Good luck with your swap...YOU will need it.

You must think me an amature at automocars. I have worked on MANY vehicles ranging from super sport cars to pick-ups used beyond their capacity. This swap is nothing new to me. It is just me to make sure if i have any questions before i buy, that they are all answerd.

I did search myself and there was to much un-needed info in the 3.4 swap threads such as tranny swaps and what not. I asked for very specific info not just general knowledge. Plus the guy i am buying it off has done many Yota engine swaps and can help me no end.

But i do thank you for your concern and best wishs Wabfab. I hope too see a Tundra build up thread from you some day.

You know, for sounding so cocky about it, you sure have a lot of questions...

Just an observation.
