i just picked up a 4.3 vortec "W" im getting ready to drop it in my 92 4runner. i have a stock auto trans, will that work? im just using it as a daily driver, and if i wanna get wild with it i can, or is it just easier/ smarter to pick up a man 5spd? im keeping the xfer case its got in it. any help would be great...good luck with your build, you sound similar to me i've only worked on chevy and this toyota stuff is new for me

But, you ended up finding and posting on a 9 year old thread....probably not going to get any new information there. Feel free to start a new thread in here with your specific questions.
I did the 4.3 swap with a '92 CPI engine/4L60 transmission and adapter to Toyota tcase into my '87 4Runner with the 22RE, so most of my details will not apply to your build.

Seems like a lot of people talk about the 3.0 being so slow. I have the 22r and it’s not fast by any means but does just fine. The 3.0 has about 35/40 more horse power. Close to 150hp ain’t it? Seems like 140/150hp would move a Toyota pickup around pretty good.
