Steering Clunk, SAS

I tried searching but couldnt find anything. I have an 88 toyota p/u, leaf sprung SAS, high steer (hydraulic assist), 37s ect. Recently at full lock and slow speed corners or even if i hit a pot hole at slow speed I get a loud clunk coming from the front end. Also while driving straight and turning the truck from side to side to shake it I can get it to clunk (other than that its relatively smooth). Any help would be appreciated in directing where I should look. Nothing noticeable leaking anywhere, no vibrations or shakes while driving, everything feels tight when I jack it up and feel things.

Thanks very much, still learning lots here so dont always know where to look.

Steve

What did you set your preload to on your knuckles? Should be at about 15lbs drag with 37's. And did you use equal shims on top and bottom?

Being that I cant determine the exact noise you are hearing, im throwing this out there on a whim I guess. It cant help to check anyways. I had been hearing a strange noise myself sort of how you are explaining, only when turning the steering wheel. Sort of a moderate "clunk". Turns out the small clip that holds the break line to the bracket, behind the shock hoop, had fallen out. Every time I would turn the wheel the break line would slip through the bracket causing the noise. May not solve the problem, but who knows, maybe youre in the same boat I was.

Pot hole at low speed, check your ubolts with a wrench. Trying to check them by hand is pointless as you aren't going to budge anything.

Jack up the front end and shake your tire side to side to check play in tie rod ends. Get a big pry bar under the tire and check your ball joints. 37's have a tendency to tear these parts up. Also check your clearences on you steering linkage to leaf springs, frame etc...

What leaf spring pack are you using, aftermarket, homemade? If it is the latter I would look to see if your leafs are fanning and the friction between them is causing the "clunks". I give this advice because thats what mine does constantly.

I also have the same problem but I know the problem is the steering hitting the drag link. I just finished my SAS and mounted the front hanger in the correct place... do i need a flat pitman arm? what does that entail? anyone?
