SAS questions
I want to do a SAS on my 1993 Pickup but I dont need the tons of lift that comes with most of these swaps. Could I just take the front suspension and axle from a 1984 and weld it in place of the IFS? It seems like I could just take the leaf spring hangers from the 84, weld them onto the 93 frame, bolt up the leafs and the bolt the axle back onto the leaf and have the stock ride height of the 84. It will be on a daily driver and the most off roading it will see is wide 4 wheeler trails and little mud holes.

For a DD, you won't be doing yourself any favors with the SAS. People typically do this swap on order to improve off road capabilities and reliability. The tradeoff (in my experience) is degraded highway mannerisms, slower handling and faster tire wear, not to mention the ever present threat of death wobble. Granted, I have the added spring lift, wide wheels, large diameter tires and long travel shocks. It sounds like you'd be running relatively small tires and you may not encounter these issues, but considering the cost and the amount of work involved in the SAS, I'd be hard pressed to mess with the stock IFS if the truck wasn't going to see a lot of dirt. It's a much better ride on the road.
I'm not saying don't do it, am saying it isn't a painless project. Just my .02 view from the other side.

I use mine as a daily driver. It's a little rougher than an ifs, but not so bad I wouldn't use it. I go fishing in some remote areas about once or twice a month. I'm glad I have it. Remember in 84 and 85 people bought these yotas as daily drivers not for Rock crawling. I'd do what makes you happy. Some people deck out their sports cars and never race them. Its the same thing really. I have a 5 inch lift and lockers. This will always be my daily driver.

More than likely. You might be better off ordering the shackle mounts. cutting out old ones may be difficult. My .02. As far as the drive line goes, modification may have to happen or it may not. Depends on the flange styles mostly. Also the ifs drive lines didn't droop so to speak like the solid axle rigs did. May want to grab a drive line from a solid axle truck.

you DEFINETLY need to get a new driveshaft. lol my IFS one waouldnt even get close to bolting up. My Tcase to Diff measurement was 30" so I got a custom one built by a local driveshaft shop

You cannot use stock steering from an 84 without the steering box. You need 3 inches of lift minimum to clear histeer. Unless you want to figure out how to keep the stock push pull steering off the 84. You're gunna have to lift it. IMO if you don't need the lift, you don't need the solid axle. You have more clearance with the same size tires with IFS and its quite capable.
Juat get a rear locker and you'll get everywhere you want to go.

Don't mean to HiJack, but figured a thread titled SAS questions would be a good place for questions about SAS...
Can I wire wheel the spindle to clean it up or is that a big no no... I have wire wheels for my drill so it wouldn't be a balls to the wall grinder wheel, just to remove some of the stuff that is on it (I cleaned it up in kerosene to remove the grease already... )

I'd use steel wool with a mild solvent at most, you don't want to mess with bearing clearances. If it really is that pitted and ruined, then order some new ones from trail gear, they are like 200 bucks for the pair, not that bad.
