Thinking of Selling my 4Runner: Need Opinions

Hey guys, so I bought my '86 4Runner a few years back. It's definitely been an up and down relationship to say the least. I loved driving it and working on it throughout high school, and it's definitely been great for me to learn about working on vehicles. After having spent a year and a half in college, I just haven't been able to spend the amount of time I'd like on her. Also, I have a long (700 miles) commute to and from school. The 4Runner makes the drive fine, but it's definitely not a highway queen. Eventually I'm going to put her up for sale. Now here's where my question comes in. I've done a lot to the 4Runner, but there are also a lot of little problems starting to surface. Here's a brief list:

-heat/AC switch broken
-decent size oil leak
-offroad bumper is loose due to accident
-headliner is coming unglued
-typical rust issues
-stains here and there

I'm just wondering, would it be best to sell her in her current state or would it make more sense to just to repair everything and then try to sell her?

If you've got time to put in your two cents it'd be greatly appreciated. For more info on the truck, and what I've done, check out my build thread below.

Cheers,
Andy

Thanks for the input dropzone. Hopefully I can get a little money out of her to put toward a 3rd gen 4Runner.

Sell as is. Anyone buying a 86 Toyota should know its not perfect and be prepared to work on it. BTY most of us miss and regret selling out first Toyota.

I'd say that you should fix it before you sell it because you will get a lot more money out of it if you do, but I agree with thefishguy. You will regret selling it no matter how much you want to sell it right now.

Considering selling the 4Runner: what do you think I could get for her?

So, as times have changed it's looking like I'm going to need to sell my '86 4Runner. I've absolutely loved this truck, but right now it's just not best for my current needs (700 mile commute to and from school). Honestly right now though, I have no idea what I could get for her. I've done a lot of work on it, but there are also some things that are going wrong. I would greatly appreciate any opinions you guys could give me on how much I could get for it.

The basics:
1986 Toyota 4Runner SR5
190k miles
All features work (other than those mentioned below)

The good:
1.5 BJ spacers up front
ZUK mod in the rear
Tinted windows all around
Addicted offroad front bumper
Trail Gear rear bumper
Bilstein 5100s all around
Old Man Emu steering stabilizer
Breaks upgraded to '94 calipers and rotors
FJ80 bigger bore master cylinder
New marlin 1200lb clutch
New Aisin master cylinder
GM 110 amp alternator
New battery
Uniden CB radio professionally installed in dash
KC daylighters on front bumper
Timing chain replaced with ENGNBLDR metal guided kit
New aluminum radiator
New water pump
New oil pump
New timing cover
Custom air intake
Underhood PA hooked up to 400W amp
Upgraded pioneer speakers (with rollbar mounted 6x9s)
2 Pioneer 12" subs with 2000W Power Acoustik amp
Roof rack with spare tire carrier
32" x 11.5" tires with full sized spare
Resurfaced flywheel
Bed lined rear shell
Warn manual locking hubs
All new vacuum hoses

Front differential with 5.29s and a Lockrite will be included

The bad:

Driver's side CV axle is failing (i have 2 new ones ready to be installed)
Rear headliner is gone
Front bumper is loose due to an accident
One KC light on bumper is shattered due to accident
Oil leak
Horn works intermittently
HIDs installed by previous owner eliminated brights
Wiper fluid pump is out
Cable to heater is broken
Cracked dash
Rust here and there
Dents and minor scratches
Cracked windshield
Window will not go down with key, but still goes up

There are probably some things that I'm missing in both categories, but these are the things I could think of off the top of my head.

As far as what I'm considering getting, I'm debating between a 2004 Tacoma and a 2009 Tacoma. Ideally I want a daily driver/weekend warrior trail rig. If you guys have any opinions on a 2004 vs 2009, let me know. Thanks in advanced for the help.

Cheers,
Andy

Thanks for your opinions guys. I know I'll regret it, I'm just struggling with the fact that I'll have such a long commute. Down the road, I hope to buy another one when I have the space as a designated wheeler.

Hey guys, sorry to be redundant. I wasn't meaning to double post just to get more views. I guess I was trying ask two different questions with each post. The first one I was more aiming at whether I should sell or not and this one was asking what I could get for it if I do sell. I'm not trying to sell it through these posts, I probably won't even post it on YT. I just highly value all of the advice I get through YotaTech (it's been truly and invaluable resource), and figured I could be a little more specific with this one. Thanks though for the heads up of being redundant. I don't want to irritate all the people that have been so helpful to me in the past.

I would fix the things that's wrong with it that I felt I needed to fix and drive it till the wheels fall off......but my newest vehicle is old enough to vote.

You'd get $3,500 all day here in Bay Area CA.

I'd hang on to it unless you are strapped .

Duplicate threads merged...I understand wanting more opinions but this belongs here: buying and selling advice-- that is what you are asking.

Sell it, buy a 93 Corolla and get another truck after you graduate and have your student loans paid off.. JMO

I honestly, I wish I could just buy a little car for a few years and then buy another 1st gen 4Runner, but I need something that's 4 wheel drive. I've got a job for this summer as a drilling/completions engineer out in Midland, Texas and a lot of times in order to access drilling rig locations I'll be needing a four wheel drive.
