Advise on possible purchace 1987 4runner (5spd 22re)
Greetings all,
I've been on the hunt for a rust free 86-95 22re 4wd rig for some time, and like anything, the good deals tend to disappear immediately...
While this runner is not rust free, I would appreciate any input based on these pics. While no expert myself, does this seem reasonable, or does the level of rust on this rig look like it would be more hassle than its worth. For 2600$ I'm not as concerned with the rust as I am with the oil leak. As I would have to fly to pick it up, I havent been able to take a good look at it; the owner is not sure the source of the leak and mentioned it does not leak when parked, and does not use much oil. In the first pic you can notice some leakage in the passenger side wheel well. I know its impossible to say for sure without the car in front of you, but I figured I'd ask: is there any likely culprit based on where the oil is noticeable? If its a valve cover I wouldn't mind replacing.
Seem like a good deal? 208K 2 owners, well maintained, timing chain replaced 35K ago, a couple of small dings and a small bondo patch that was painted, some marginal topical bubbling...

Sorry about that- should be sorted out (had the wrong links). Coincidentally, if I find a white rig, I'd like to paint (decal?) that same exact design as on your 85.

Cool- thanks for the advice yall. It was tempting with the body being in decent shape, I would much rather spend the effort/$ to find something that has no rust/leaks. Will post some pics when I find my ride!
