Storing recovery gear

Alright, trying to put together some good recovery gear as most of the stuff I had has been retired.

I currently have:

(2) 2"x30' ARB Snatch Straps
20' tow chain (just in case)
4 3/4" shackles
Gloves
Assorted tools
Receiver Shackle

I bought one of these:

http://www.rubicon4x4.com/catalog/wi...l-p-23391.html

Awesome bag, but not big enough to hold all my stuff.

I'm a freak about my Runner and it's gotta be really organized or it drives me nuts, I was hoping I could get everything in here but I can't.

So, my options are...buy another one, have one for mainly recovery straps and such and then another for the tools and shackles and stuff. Or keep this as a good tool bag and put a small socket set and stuff in there and as I said, just have it as a tool bag and then get another bigger bag for all my recovery stuff. I know WARN makes some nice bags, I've seen the Camo bags, they're pretty large.

What do you all use?

Thanks,

Fink

Your first link didn't show up Marc, and the box in the second link isn't available around here...I found a pretty sweet Rubbermaid Cargo Box online that I might get, similar to the one you linked to from Lowe's.

Some person on here (can't exactly remember who), did something pretty neat I'll try to duplicate. They measured the length from wheel-well to wheel-well in the trunk and then went to IKEA to get some plain-jane cabinets. He ended up getting that had drawers of different dimensions and then stained em and velcro'd them to the carpet, even though he said they are tight enough in there and won't move much.

AND EDIT
That was midiwall (how could I forget)! And here is his write-up. I like the idea very much, but I'd probably use a darker stain.

Yeah, that was midiwall...not sure those would be durable enough for me to hold all of my stuff, shackles and stuff get pretty heavy.

I think the bag I have now will remain a tool bag and I'll just round up some tools to throw in there, might keep my shackles and assorted clevis grab/slip hooks in there to lower the weight of the other one. This chain weighs atleast 15lbs by itself so I'm not sure what I'm gonna do there.

Keep the idea comin guys! I'm on the hunt for a good metric socket set as of now.

I would stick with bags. They are easier to move around. You can pile crap on top, plus then fold in on themselves to take up less space.

Yeah I like the bag idea too...but I also like having a solid container I can use for just general car stuff, jumper cables, manuals, repair manuals and all that stuff.

Sweet.

I just went on IKEA and looked around...found these:

http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/store...0103&langId=-1

Those would be pretty nice to have in there...but I'll focus on one thing at a time first.

You could always go the redneck route. Just carry 20 rolls of duct tape and then just throw crap on the floor and tape it down, should work fine

I put my shackles, spare axle, fire extinguisher, tow strap, air compressor, first aid kit, and small tool box in the container. It is a little heavy, but I wont move it much.

what about that side compartment in the rear, passenger corner? you may already have stuff in there, i dont know, its where i keep jumper cables.

if you want to go all out, SkyRat has a sweet cargo storage/bed setup...

Yeah I've already got the side pocket full of stuff, jumper cables, first aid kit, bungee cords, tie downs.

Here's my plan so far...I don't really want to build a complete storage unit as of yet so I think I will have one bag for tools and then one bag for my recovery gear. In addition to that I think I will have a storage bin, not sure of which on yet, but I will have a big bin with a closable/lockable lid that I can just throw stuff in, like my trailer hitches, hitch pins, jumper cables if I need more room in my side compartment, bottle jack, jack stands, yada yada.

Keep the ideas coming though as nothing has been done on it yet, thanks!

Ikea's furniture is junk. If you don't think midiwells drawers are going to hold up, Ikea's sure isn't.
