Rear end Binding and clunking!!!
Alright lately ive been having thing grinding tpye noice which today i found out its my rear diff. When i jack up the rear and spin the flange(no driveshaft connected) it binds and release every like 1/4 turn and makes an awful clunking sound. I planned on rebuilding both axles with lockers and new gears this summer but what do u guys think probably broke or is about to break inside?? only thing ive done was re tighten my flange nut and u joint which abovisly isnt my problem

Hopefully just the ring & pinion, or just the side gears, not both. Good luck, and don't try driving it anymore till it's fixed, Dangerous. Whole thing will disintegrate at the worst possible time, says Murphy. Bent pinion? I'd like to see that. MOST likely missing teeth. Lots of personal experience with such, here.

So far I've replaced all mine with stock gears from junker axles. I will probably order some from these guys if I ever do go for some after-market. Richmond has a pretty good rep.

I finally got it out, The housing of the open diff assembly was hitting the end of the pinion shaft and it made some pretty nice marks in it. I havent pull the 3rd apart but its something to do with the pinion shaft. probably bent or bad bearings.
