biggest tires under...
What is the absolute biggest tire I can stuff under an '84 4runner with a 6" lift and it still be drivable? Its already got 5.29 gears and a locker. Its not mine but Im going to do my best to change that. Currently there are tiny 31x10.5's on it. No flares or cutting and I'd like to keep it that way.

What do you mean by drivable? On road, offroad?
You could probably fit 40's if you didn't want any compression travel at the mall.
If you're actually gonna USE the truck though, I would agree with 35's.

A lot will depend on where the front axle is located. With the stock location, 35s would likely fit, given a narrow tire/wheel combo and narrow track. If you have the front axle moved forward from stock, a larger tire may fit as it is rubbing at the back of the front wheel well that is the tight spot:
33x9.50 w/ 3.5" lift, stock axle location:
33x15.50 with same lift, axle 2" forward from stock:

i've seen a guy wheeling 37x12.5 boggers without trimming and a 6 inch lift, but i believe it was 1" forward. I have also sen 35x12.5s with a 2" lift with only a little trimming with a good offset. alot depends on the rims/ spacers used

Who do you know that has a 6" lift and 31" tires? That must look so dumb, IMHO. My '84 has a 5-6" lift (all suspension) and 35"x12.50" with front axle in stock location and they rub the firewall at full compression. My fenders are damaged because of this and they rub the doors when the doors are opened. They hit the pinch weld in the firewall too. I'm ablout to put new fenders on and move the axle forward to hopefully stop this.

I was planning to buy it off of a guy I know. It really does look pretty stupid. I guess it was a project in the works and he ran out of money before he could buy tires. However, I missed it. Didnt get ahold of him for like 3 days and missed my opportunity. Oh well, guess I'll save some money, find me a junkyard 1st gen and pull the axle out of it for an SAS on the '90.
