Followed Wabfab's guide, was easy enough. Once I got it all back together though, the CV still spins in both free and locked positions. It all looks put tgether right, and everything fits well, it just won't spin free in free mode. What am I doing wrong?

Everything installs easily, but wheni spin the tire, the CV axle spins with it regardless of if the hub is locked or free.

Clutch is not moving with the big spring correctly. Check and make sure you didn't use too much grease and that the spring isn't on backwards. Flat side goes in the clutch.

Pring is correct, I'll try lightening up on the grease.

If you have too much grease it will create a suction and the clutch won't move. Just enough grease so there is a light coat, like a glaze on a cake, not like icing on a cake.

Ok, stripped almost all of the grease, same thing, on both of them. I triple checked, the springs are on correctly, and seem to have good compression. Is there anything else I could be missing?

Messed with them some more.

When the dial/face/clutch/springs are put together, one will turn from free (cluch up against face plate) to lock (clutch extended away from face plate) using the dial. On the other one, the clutch stays in place when you rotate the dial. You can turn the clutch assembly itself and it will go from closed to extended, but turning the dial doesn't do it. When they're all assembled into the hub, neither of them work, even the one that seems to do OK when taken out. The CVs still spin, no matter if they're in lock or free position.

make sure your spring hook end is set where it gets pulled when actuating the "clutch". you have to hold the gear with your palm when testing so the gear doesnt twist, then install it in closed/free mode. i had this very same problem...those little things are actually a bit tricky, just look at all the small stuff and make sure it all makes sense...it took me a little bit when rebuilding mine to get it all right. the first time it pushes in and pulls out is always a little reluctant. spin the wheel backwards to get it to unlock if it wont.

I'm fairly sure I have them together right, and that one seems like it should work....

I read through about a half dozen walkthroughs, with pics, I'll see what I think tomorrow.

Did you just refurbish ones already on your truck or swap them out from ADD or auto hubs?

Swapped them with the ADDs that were on there, it's a '95. I got them from a guy on here, he said he rebuilt them, and they look brand spankin' new, clean as a whistle. No rust or even discoloration.

Should be a direct bolt on so something with the hubs is not put together just right.

If you can't figure it out, might take some pictures of how you got them put together. They got to be just so.
