URD vs. TRD Superchargers
I was looking at URD for a Supercharger Kit, and they had none for the '96 4Runner. Called, they said "Sure, get a fuel system upgrade kit". Looked at TRD, and they had a Supercharger kit there. Any feedback? Am i missing something at URD or should I go with TRD?
Thanks!
Thanks!

URD sells upgrades for the TRD superchargers, they will soon be selling (may be available now) a line of Rotrex superchargers.
You did actually call them though, right?
If it were me I would just go with the tried and true TRD supercharger - there are a CRAP TON of threads on this forum about them.
Do a search for "3.4 supercharger" and you'll be reading for hours.

If you want new, contact the guys/gals at Toyota of Dallas (www.trdparts4u.com) and see what their recommendation is.

oh, FYI, the rotrex SC's will kick the pants off of TRD's blower... not sure how I would hook it up though, there would have to be some custom fab work to get it installed...
The centrifugal type are so much more efficient and powerful; it develops high HP/Torque as soon as 1500 RPM
Also, check out Prochargers, the PSC-1 unit has been used also; these are capable of even more power! also the most expensive...

i talked to urd too, i have a 98 tacoma with a trd supercharger 2nd generation i love it urd told me to get the 7th injector if i wanted a smaller pulley which creates more boost.

yes, get the 2.2 or 2.1" pulley from URD and either a 7th injector kit or the fuel upgrade kit. I have the latter because I run meth injection but 7th inj kits usually develop more power all else being equal than the fuel upgrade kit (bigger injectors/fuel pump). you should be clocking in the 250rwhp range with this setup (add some good headers).
the kits both come with the FTC unit and a good startup map that will get you on the road but you will need a wideband sensor to measure your AFR's to dial in your tune. I paid someone to do my first tune but it's not all that hard if you buy an AFR sensor like the LM-II (URD also has those, got mine off of Amazon for $296 though, a bit cheaper)
you will notice the same impressive gains when you add the fuel upgrades, as much or more than the SC by itself, trust me, you want it!
good luck, there's lots of us on here that can help you out and answer any questions with this specific setup.

I was told to get the 2.2, how can you tell if you have a fuel upgrade i know on the older supercharger (grey) its on brake booster and mine would be the throttle body but how do you tell if the 6 are upgraded? or can you?
o ya and i have headers theyre the trd equal length headers

If it's a recent URD kit, the injectors will have a 'piggyback' wiring harness on each injector instead of the stock connectors, i.e., the 318cc Boschs that come in the fuel upgrade kit have a different connector and to save time, URD graciously supplied 6 short adaptors for the fuel injectors, they're about 4" long. Also you would have to pull the fuel pump (fun if you have a pickup) and see what the heck it is; the fuel upgrade I got came with a walbro 190lph pump which is great.
also look at the sparkplugs maybe, the fuel upgrade I know comes with Iridium IRK's from Denso, not sure if that would be a great way to tell though....
probably the easiest besides looking at the injector wiring is to call URD and give them the model number of the FTC unit (the ECU piggyback box) and they can easily tell you which kit it came with or if it was a seperate purchase.
I would also agree with the 2.2" pulley, the smaller the pulley, the faster the rotors turn which develops more boost but it also causes accelerated wear on the SC itself. I don't know how much difference in wear there really is between a 2.2 and 2.1 but that's the theory behind it at any rate...

good to hear you have the headers already also, that will be a good compliment to the SC... you will actually see slightly less boost pressure with the free-er flowing exhaust headers but you will still make as good or better gains as someone without them at a higher boost pressure... (expect maybe 1-2psi drop max from the headers)
