towing with 33s

so iv done some research and havent really got a stright answer. i have a 93 toyota pickup with a 22re and 33 inch super swampers .I am looking to regear the truck and from time to time i am goin to need to pull my 14 foot jon boat and a 5x8 trailer . i know alot of people run 4.88 but is that going to be enough to get a 1200 lb trailer up to highway speeds and hold it in 4th gear even ? maybe 5.29s . what has work for you ?

I know my 4.10s and 22r is a PITA to pull my 4 wheeler on a small trailer.I can use 4th but any inlince or loss in speed your needing 3rd.Not to mention taking off in first has it lugging pretty bad.

I would go 4.88's That way your 4th gear rpms are 3000ish pulling at 60.

That way you can have your 5th gear for not pulling, nice MPG's and lower rpms.

Theres no point in gearing so low that your 5th gear rpms are 3000 at 60, you'd might as well have higher gears and tow in 4th.

SO if you gear to low your just taking away your overdrive, for not towing. Gear so your 4th gear is at a comfortable rpm so you can drive long distances and not be at 3500rpms.

PS even with 5.29's you probably won't be able to use 5th gear to tow. So might swell get 4.88's and use 4th.

I run 4.56 gears in my taco, but its a v6. Anyways its 2900rpms towing a 3000pound camping trailer at 65 with 33's. And when I'm not towing I can use 5th and run 75mph at 2900 rpms. In my opinion it would screw me running 4.88's. 4th would be to low for freeway, at 5th still wouldn't be able to pull the trailer.

What your pulling doesnt sound to heavy. Or have the rediculus wind drag of a camping trailer, so granted your motor is running good, you should be fine with 4.88

its not that bad weight wise and its all flat roads no hills so it sounds like 4.88s might be right for me .so what would be an ideal rpms to be towing a load at say 60 on the hwy ?

This is done with your truck a W56 trans, 4.88 gears, and 33'' tires.

And this seems redundant.
