my smokin 82

Hey Folks, New here, and new to my Toyota as well. It's an 82 sb 4x4, The problem I am having is trying to determine why, when and only when I go forward up moderate to heavy inclines it smokes like a chimmney, when I level back out it stops fairly quickly. Things to look for is what I am inquiring about. other than that it seems to run great, Thanks in advance

I kinda dont think so yoder, I have hit it pretty hard on pavement, no smoke,I mean it is like someone is pouring oil right in the exhaust manifold, thick thick smoke, when I am going up these hills, I am just kinda idling, (out hunting) not at all gettin with it.

but I will keep that in mind

Make sure none of the oil drain back holes in the head are plugged, oil cool pool in the head and possibly run down the valve stem when on a hill ?. Its just a guess, but its the only thing i could think of.

Thanx MyYota, there was indeed a wire seperator in the drainback hole, works way better now. Now, has anyone ever grooved the peaks on the topside of the head ( the ones around the valves) to help with oil draining, Mine seem to be just about submerged in oil.. just a thought

The most I have ever done is just general clean-up, grinding the casting smooth (well, smoother anyway), deburring of the return holes.
Just making the path easier has always done the trick.
I have never groved the peaks off though.
