New Gears and Lockers are in!!

Finally... I picked up my 4runner w/ the 4.56 gears and front and rear lockers installed.
As per the shops instructions I drove 15mi @ slow speeds then stopped for 40min. I then repeated this drive and stop one more time before driving the final 30 mi home @ less than 50mph.
Both lockers engage and disengage perfectly, however there seems to be alot more noise when I am driving is this normal for new gears and will it go away after awhile or does it sound like a problem?

Give them a call, it should be the same as before.

Thanks Steve,
I was afraid of that. It took two weeks to get the install done and I cant imagine the cost or time it will take to have them redo the gears.
. Is this a take it all apart and put it back together thing or can it be done easily compared to the complete install.

Can I ask why you went with 4:56 over 4:88 since you have 285/75's ?

I have no idea if its common to have to have the gears redone.
It took 2 weeks because toyota gave them a wrong axle seal 3 times. The real problem is it took a month and a half to get the truck into the shop after ordering the parts.

Mine came completely apart many times. Gear installs are tricky, the better trained/knowageable the installer is, the better you will be.
Whathappened to me is that some guy from Pro Trucks in Ca got a job at Kongs. He did my gears. He got the rear wrong right off the bat and had to re-do it. Then they canned him. Turned out that he left the setup bearings in my froint diff and those went out.
Finally Larry "ZAGS" on Pirate re-did them both and they have been perfect ever since. Thy 1st guy could never get them right and Larry did the first time.
It's all in the installer. For the FJ-62 I got a guy Randy Ellis knew who had been doing it for 20 years of so.
It really comes down to the installer and there knowledge.

pfdaxe I went w/ the 4.56's because I do alot of high speed driving 75mph+ and they put me back close to original. However about 2 weeks ago I started to think about the 4.88's and had to stop before I gave myself a headache and hurt my wallet.

just got 4.88's installed this past weekend.
You shouldn't hear any noise. It should be the same as before, just like Steve said. If the gears are setup wrong, you'll get a humming noise most likely.
I do not know if it's common or not, but I would think that they should get it right the first time, and CHECK THE PATTERN, so that you wouldn't have to go back. If you do go back, you shouldn't have to pay anything cuz it's their fault

AznSky, thats what I was hoping to hear. I dont know why they are wrong but a primarily jeep shop did the install maybe theyre just used to setting up those gears. and yes it deffinately sounds like a humming noise.

Christian the rig is beastly now. Before it felt so underpowered. Now accelerating and going up hill is a breeze. Gas mileage has improved too!!

What you're looking at in that blurry pic is the blood stains on the teeth... That red dye should be fairly evenly smeared across the face of the gear teeth, not just at the edge like that. It is pretty bad...

Reply to rtdawgs, an answer to your question is arb's front and rear. I cant wait to try them out, though I am having some trouble w/ my 4wd light and I cant tell (around) town if I am getting 4hi all the time or not at all I do know 4lo works.
