I hate it when your DD dies in the morning...

I was heading to school to take the -oh so important- high school graduation tests in my little 2wd 87. I was in 4th gear, and tried to get ahead of this crazy lady beside me. I pushed it to 60 mph got ready to shift, (the highest I'll go in 4th) and the engine quits on me. Ends up I got to the side of the road and tried to crank it. First couple of times it wanted to crank up, but after that all it did was turn over. I'm guessing I either don't have fuel or spark? I'm about to check and see if the fuel pump's squirting anything. Maybe check for a spark in the #1 spot. Anyone have any suggestions/similar experiences?

So we lost the spark tester, and did it the shade tree way, that's right we grabbed hold of the coil wire. No spark was felt, so I guess that means the coil is bad right? Anyone know which type of cars/trucks toyota put the same coild wire in? (same as an 87 2wd carbed p/u's coil wire) I called three auto parts stores and it sounds like it's gonna be around $70.

Take out the plugs. Put one plug in a plug wire and touch the plug to ground. Turn it over and see if it sparks.

we grabbed the coil wire. I don't think there is any spark if we don't feel anything. I guess that is the least dangerous way of testing though...
