How much cutting to install a Detroit LS in a Toyota axle

I bought a Detroit LS(clutch) from a friend that had been running it for a few years, and he upgraded to full lockers when he started running competitions.

So, the flange that the ring gear bolts to, is twice as thick as the stock carrier.
How much material have you had to grind on the housing in order to install a Detroit? Is it common to have to grind the housing for these?
Please let me know

The axle housing, not the diff housing.
I know that you have to clearance the axle housing for the e-locker, but just wondered if it is common on LS diffs

x2 you should not have to clearance the diff housing at all...when putting in my 5.29's they don't just slide right in, sometimes I have to rotate the pinion slightly for a little clearance.

OK, when I bought it, my friend told me it was a Detroit LS(I figured it was their posi as it is clutch driven). I talked to him yesterday and he told me that it is actually a Downey LS.
I got it from my friend and was going to put it in my truck, but Christmas came early and I picked up 2 e-lockers for $150/ea.
So, I sold this one and the guy that bought it setup it up with 5.29s and doesn't like that he has to grind on his axle housing and thinks it will leak.
I'm just trying to find out how common it is to grind the housing when installing diffs with limited slips and lockers in general.
