I would like to know how everyone secures gear in the Back of their 4Runner with out a cargo cover. My 4Runner 2000 SR5 4X4, Doesn't have the cargo cover and I was wondering how do you guy's and gal's hold your gear in place when off roading : or incase you are in an accident, (Don't want to get nailed in back if head by a tool box or a mag light, or anything else flying around due to the laws of physics.) the cargo nets I have looked at are junk and wouldn't hold much other than grocies.

So what have you all done to keep your brain in tact???? TJ

hmm i got a 150lb+ of subs and box back there so theres no room for anything else i hope i dont get into a accident with it back there

Well, I have a 1st gen and I'm not trying to win any beauty contest with it so I ripped out the body panels in the back and I store stuff in the the space between where the panels where and the fender walls:





strap the cooler to the roll bar with some bungee chords and they hold down my fold-up chairs and shovel:

I have all of my stuff in a duffle bag. I use the shoulder strap to secure it, I have the bag up against the back seat and the strap going over the bag and connected to the 2 metal tie down loops on the floor. tighten the strap up and wala! it works great for me but I don't have a ton of stuff i take with me.

These black plastic boxes from Contico are great. I made mine into a "off road kit" that has everything I need like CV shaft, shovel, fluids....

I use an old military footlocker I got from a surplus store. Just a big plywood box. With everything in it it is far too heavy to move anywhere and with my spare back then like in that pic above it wedges in there very tightly. I am planning to do an under-the-floor toolbox and re-design my side panels at some point so I can do away with the big box so I can still have room back there.

Another idea is a buddy of mine that has an Xterra installed some of that divider stuff like you see in K9 police cars behind the back seat, mainly just in case his Co2 tank decided to let go. That way you don't have to worry as much about securing everything, just watch out for your windows...

I see some clever set ups. I am thinking of building something, kinda like a double floor that can anchor to the tie downs, I have some plans for some extra disc changer and a self powered sub, I also do bail bonding and bounty hunting, so I have all kinds of extra restraints for dirt bag hauling, (hope I didn't oiffend any members here), But I am thinking of of 2x6's for the basic sub frame then having storege for jacks, tools, and then having a "perp,' bag with the goodies for restraints, Also thinking of a big D ring to haul perps on the floor back to jail. on a very short chain. If any body has a setr of prints for something like that let me know,please. TJ

I planned on covering it in auto carpet, just never got around to it and now the truck is sold.... Would have made a huge difference on knees..

I use gun racks in rear side windows to hold all of my climbing gear and axe. I am planning on bending some tube to bolt to the floor to mount shovel, axe, highlift, etc on as well.

I don't know yet! I'd love to get organized and make better use of that space...but for now, two duffle bags, one with repair stuff, another with emergency items/survival gear. Both strapped down with chords.

if you dont want to build anything, i know quadratec sells interior cargo nets you can attach to tiedowns in the cargo area, they're made to fit cherokees, but i believe there adjustable...if you want somethin you can take out, or roll up when not being used. it should be on quadratec.com
