Help choosing an exhaust (I searched first)

Hi Guys,

I did some searching but didn't come up with much. I just bought (2 days ago) a 93 Toyota Pickup 4X4 reg. cab with the 22re and 5spd. It needs a muffler so i'm thinking flowmaster, magnaflow, dynomax. I'm looking for suggestions. I don't want to spend a fortune, just want it to perform decent and not sound like crap. I don't really care for it to be loud, but a little throaty sounding never hurts. I know I'm going to get a bunch of opinions of this one or that one, and that's fine. Basically I'm looking for value here and nothing that will be too loud.

Thanks in advance, and sorry if this has been beat to death but the search didn't turn up much of anything.

~Jason

I have a pacesetter header and a summit turbo muffler w/ high flow cat on my 93 22RE

For the money a summit turbo is a nice sounding muffler. However I will be taking the Magnaflow off my 4th Gen soon and will probably end up putting it on my 93 truck..

on my '91, the front exhaust had been redone with 2" to the cat, and was rotted from the muffler outlet back. i had the exhaust shop install a new muffler and put 2" pipe all the way back.

sounds really mellow, didn't really notice a power increase/decrease.

on my '79, i've got a thorley header that dumps directly into a 30" cherry bomb glass pack with turndown on the end. yeah, it'll make your ears bleed but that thing can really get it awn. i'll probably have it redone with a magnaflow and make the piping longer(maybe dump in front of the rear tire), the buzz gets annoying after a while. can't get a better sounding muffler at an idle though.

I'm thinking Magnaflow, hearing good things about it but where can I find one. Did a google and couldn't turn up much other than OEM mufflers and the magnaflow website. Do they make a magnaflow for a 93 Yota P/U or do you have to get a universal. If so, what universal works well. Thanks alot guys

Also, how about dynomax?

Bought a magnaflow over the summer, but dont reccomend it. Sounds a little too riced out in my opinion. Be sure to go with a DUAL outlet, looks much better, and I regret it now. One of my buddies has a Flowmaster on his taco, and it sounds much better. The magnaflow just doesnt have the throaty sound I wanted. Ohh well, good luck.

Ohh, by the way, Meinekie(one of the chain garages in New Jersey) ran a special on the Magnaflow and the flowmaster, $300 installed including the tip.

Magnaflow. Unless you're going to parade the muffler around, get the cheaper version that doesn't have a polished finish. Got mine for $35 and another $50 for install. Many high-performance muffler shops are magnaflow distributors. I don't know about others but I don't think mine sounds ricey.

Also, ebay usually has them for about $60 shipped IIRC. If you don't want a louder muffler, go with the longer version that's at least 20 inches long.

I just threw a stainless 3.0 in. exhaust on my '89. Had some spare exhaust parts (muffler, cat, resonator) lying around the shop and some scrap bends. Sounds ok...kinda loud...after it's turbo'd it'll be a lil quieter. Also, any of the straight through perforated resonators and mufflers will be louder than a louvered style part. Its one of those compromises between volume, flow, and pressure.
