Birfield wont go in

Hi all, so i know this questions been asked alot, but why wont my longfield go in the splines in the axle? Thanks

maybe a bent housing not letting the birf go in.. other than that not sure.

hm its not bent....mabey im just a total rookie at installing new birfields hmmm

IIRC, there are flat spots on the birfields. Make sure that they are lined up with the flat spots on the housing and they should slide right in, might have to wiggle it a little.

Edit: Disregard this. After picturing this in my head, I realized that the flat spots are just for slipping it past the knuckle ball and have nothing to do with aligning splines. My apologies for inaccurate info.

He is asking why the longfield won't attach to the inner axle I think....in which case, the splines are not indexed so it should pop right together with a soft mallet

Typically I get another person to wiggle the front diff pinion or the dshaft if attached to wiggle the splines a bit while I try to put the axle in the splines. Seriously, sometimes you just gotta hold your mouth right.

If you are trying to put a birf on an axle shaft, hit it with your purse

yeah ive tried everything except....hitting it with a purse or mallet :0

sorry for the double post, but would could it be that its alot harder to install the longfield when the knuckle is still on? i think i made the mistake of putting the birfield on before the inner axle...
