Birfield wont go in
#5
IIRC, there are flat spots on the birfields. Make sure that they are lined up with the flat spots on the housing and they should slide right in, might have to wiggle it a little.
Edit: Disregard this. After picturing this in my head, I realized that the flat spots are just for slipping it past the knuckle ball and have nothing to do with aligning splines. My apologies for inaccurate info.

He is asking why the longfield won't attach to the inner axle I think....in which case, the splines are not indexed so it should pop right together with a soft mallet

Typically I get another person to wiggle the front diff pinion or the dshaft if attached to wiggle the splines a bit while I try to put the axle in the splines. Seriously, sometimes you just gotta hold your mouth right.
If you are trying to put a birf on an axle shaft, hit it with your purse

sorry for the double post, but would could it be that its alot harder to install the longfield when the knuckle is still on? i think i made the mistake of putting the birfield on before the inner axle...
