Aisin and/or Warn hub advice
I'm getting ready to change my '94 4Runner over to manual hubs and still trying to decide what hubs to install. I've done a search and found the majority of owners prefer Aisin, but I like having the Warn warranty. I do not do a lot of offroad driving and mainly use 4 wheel drive for the snow. I can go many months not engaging 4 wheel drive. Also, does it really help fuel mileage? I understand the theory for switching. Any thoughts would be helpful.

My 87 Came with the warn hubs on it. There not bad, but I prefer the Aisin hubs. The warns are nice to work on because the hub does not have those cone washers, and the interior parts are pretty simple. And not that its a big deal, but with the warns, you have to turn the dial one full turn to get them to lock rather than just 1/4 turn on the aisian.
The aisian hubs are a lot smaller in size. If my wheel slid off a rock with the warn hubs, theres a good chance Im going to smack the hub on the rock, where as the aisians are protected by being in the rim.
My vote also goes to the Aisians.

all you need is new gaskets, and some grease
costs about $20 for the gaskets from the dealer for both sides, and the cost of wheel bearing grease, which most of us have laying around anyhow

And X2 on the size, the Aisins stick out less and are less likely to get hit by something off road. I've dinged a set of Aisins on a rock and did some slight damage to them, so can only imagine if they were Warns and sticking out farther, they may have been destroyed.
