94 4x4 body or suspension lift
I have a 94 toyota 4x4 pickup.Thinking about lifting a little for more tire clearence. Running 31's and thinking of going to 33's.Any suggestions on just a body lift or should i go with a suspension lift. What lifts are better to use. Thanks in advance for any info.

Your best bet is Susp.... Lift. I personally do not like body lifts. Although some guys do.
What is your main goal. Just a lifted truck or you plan of trail riding? Ext....
Tire size: I personally like to run tall skinny tires. 33/10.0r15 is a good choice.
Lifts...
You have 3 bolt on options here that I'm aware of.
Balljoints spacers front 1.5" with AAL, shackle, spring, or blocks for rear.
Long travel suspension
4-5 inch bracket lift
Any one of those will allow a 33" tire with out any other modifications if mounted on a proper back spaced wheel.
If you consider the ball joint spacer I have a extra set I could sell you

We'll to run a taller tire for that kinda use then is suggest doing BallJoint Spacers and Add A Leaf. That's plenty enough lift to run a 33" tire. Once again you must run a corresponding wheel to achieve this. If you run a 12" wheel with a 33/12.50 then yeah there going to rub. However running a 33/12.50 on a 8" wheel with proper back spacing then you will not rub.
The BallJoint spacers give you exactly 1.5" lift. You can then adjust torsion bars to achieve a total of 2" that rides comfortably. The AAL will lift the rear giving you a level ride.
You can pick up a complete kit off eBay for under $300.00 that comes with the shocks and all. Or you can piece it together cheaper.

I run 33x12.5s on my truck because I didn't want to be limited with tire choices in the 33x10.5 size. Requires at least 8" wheels per tire companies (but some wheelers claim they've used stock 7" without problem, I just don't get how sidewall clears control arms) and 1" more back spacing over stock - so 3.75" to 3.5" is perfect and leaves minimal gap between inner sidewall and upper control arm (stock wheels are 15x7-4.75"bs). A 33x10.5 will fit a stock truck and wheels with zero modifications.
Either 33 can fit stock height too, just needs some fender cutting haha. 33x10.5 will tuck under your fender just like your 31s do, but a wider tire or wheel combo will need fender clearance as well as clearance at firewall/pinch weld and front bumper/valence due to contact at your turning end points. Luckily our ifs trucks don't flex much up front, so minimal lift is needed - 1.5" BJ spacers is plenty of room in front. You could also just crank torsion bars, but bj spacers would be better choice for ride quality, flex, extra down travel, etc. rear is up to you, there are several choices to level out the front.
My truck took bj spacer + slight tbar lift in front + pinch weld hammering + bumper trim to get full clearance in front. Height is 22.5" center axle to bottom fender lip. Rear is OME leafs on stock shackles- could use 1-2" longer shackles for some slight body rake, right now is level with front at 22.5".

no problemo.
yeah, the only person who'd be able to help you with this question at a dealership is perhaps one of the techs in the shop who still drives an old toyota pickup.
If you were to ask this question at a flatbiller offroad shop they will likely tell you that you'll need a 4" bracket lift to clear 33s and will sell you some 10-12" wide wheels to match it, hahaha. Bracket lift is for people who want 100% bolt on with zero fitment mods to make the tires clear everything (thus they only say 33" tire). Unfortunately there are different levels of quality on these systems and make your rig unnecessarily tall for what you're wanting. In the "real" world, it's much more practical to try and fit the largest tire on minimal lift in order to gain clearance, yet keep your center of gravity as low as possible - at least that's what it is for crawling and general offroading where you might get off camber. Mud pits are different and you'd likely want excessive height for less resistance and to keep your cab dry when you get stuck...and you'll likely get stuck every time with a little 'ole toyota unless you've got a v8 hidden under the hood
as for the lift, it's up to you. there are many ways to go about it, it really depends on what your plans are, budget, fab skills, etc.

I agree with HighOnPottery 100%. Our trucks make a great platform to build off of and like he said. A 33" tire will fit with factory settings. However some rub will appear.
Now here is a picture of my 87 pickup. This pic was taken before I ever touched the suspension in anyway. It's 100% stock. In this pic I'm running Kuhmo 3312.50r15 tires on a 12" wide rim. These tires would rub if I had the tires fully turned left or right. However I drove it this way for several years.
This next picture was taken the day I purchased my new tires. They are KM2's 33/10.50r15 mounted on factory tacoma wheels. I've also got 1.5" BJ spacers and AAL installed giving me roughly 2" lift.
Now in this last pic I've got my suspension completely maxed out. I have no rub at all and once again. I only have about 2" of lift and still running a 33" tire.
In this last picture I will show you the same exact lift installed on my 1993 Toyota and once again running a 33" tire with the suspension maxed out. NO RUB....
If your interested in a complete bolt on kit then here is the one that I've purchased 3 times now. It comes complete with everything you need. Diff drop, SwayBar drop, spacers, AAL, shocks, and all hardware. If you call these guys and tell them that eBay member MichealH17 recommended you then they will give you a 10-20% discount.
