91 22re turbo possibly?

I bought 91 yota 4x4 5speed from my brother who left it sit in a field for 4 years after putting a CRATE 22RE from trd in it because he got disgusted with working on it. after 2 months of replacing lines, wiring, and seals. im thinking i may want to add some power. Although i am not new to building wheelers or wrenching, i am very new to these little trucks. i see great potential in the truck but i don't want to follow in the trend of my friends by putting a small block v8 in it. any suggestion, do's and don'ts, or things i should know?? thanks guys

Your only limited by your budget!!!

I think if you want to stay in the Toyota family your best bang for the buck is to go with a 3.4 swap.

You can put big bucks into the 22rec engine and still not have the horse power of a stock 3.4

If your decided on staying with the engine you have the key to 22rec performance is in the head work cam, bigger valves and ported and polished .

Then a bigger exhaust system.

Forced induction you might need to lower the compression to prevent knocking. Then you need to source the manifolds and other parts.

I am no doubt forgetting something there are so many threads out there so just start reading.

Like I said just limited by your budget.

Curious where you came up with the low mileage figure on the turbos and what was the cause of the failure??

I have 2 going strong over 150,000 miles I planned to upgrade if they fail still waiting.

Thanks guys for all the input. After pricing short block 3.4. As well as all the conversion parts I understand why buddies put sbc in their trucks. Might not be a bad idea considering I have 4 in my garage. Any takers on a brand new 22re complete with ecu and wiring harness??

Better off finding a donor truck than buying a brand new motor.

Every junkyard donor truck or running truck i found is 2500 hundred and up. Usually blown up. And I found a few short blocks for 1500. Not really on a real tight budget but having a few motors already put together in my garage is sounding like a decent idea. Anyone know where I can find adaptor plates or bell housing to match my tranny to a sbc? Thanks again

Hahaha that's the thing rasta, there's not a thing wrong with it. Crate 22re. Only parts I reused was ecu, valve pan cover, oil pan, and intake manifold. Everything else is brand new. That's why I was hoping to use it. Motor is crisp. Less then 1k miles.
